Explanation:

Due to COVID, we noted the extended due date to 6/15/2021. We were working on the filing to be completed by 6/15/2021. Since we are now required to file electronically our learning curve was more difficult than anticipated and we were unable to complete the filing by 6/15/2021. We submitted the automatic extension form 8868 on 6/15/2021 but it was rejected. At this point, we logically concluded that the rejection was due to the due date not being adjusted to 6/15/2021. The electronic system indicated that mailing form 8868 was an option. It was mailed the same day. We have not received a response as yet. We believe our actions were reasonable given the unique circumstances of the COVID pandemic and the extended due date.
