| Form 990, Part III, Line 3 | Due to COVID-19, we closed our office in late March through May and reopened on June 1, with the appropriate safety precautions for staff and clients. Stay-at-Home orders and other measures to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic have prompted many modifications in our operations and impacted our services and finances. Crisis Intervention: Prior to the pandemic, we met with individuals at their homes, and they had been able to walk into our offices without an appointment or call. Phone contacts only during the Stay-at-Home period made it more difficult to assess needs, achieve a level of trust and know how victims were responding to our support. A phone call to someone who just lost a family member was just not the same as an in-person visit. We've seen a decrease in referrals from other organizations, too, although self-referrals continue at about the same rate. Instead of serving 380 households, we expect to serve roughly 320 households in our current grant year due pandemic impacts. Counseling: We are serving existing clients through HIPPA-compliant telehealth methods, but many new clients are electing to wait for our in-person counseling to resume. We project a potential drop in households served, from about 110 to around 80, during our current grant year. Youth CBI Groups: In November 2019, we offered our first CBI Group at East High School in KCMO, and finished before schools closed in early spring 2020. We began offering CBI Groups at Wyandotte High School in spring 2020, but could not finish our first group before schools closed. However, after Wyandotte closed, our facilitator and another led once-a-week Zoom discussions on topics such as coping with COVID-19 and problem solving, and used online supplemental videos. Jackson County Family Court suspended all groups, including our CBI Groups for delinquent juveniles during the Stay-at-Home Order. We expect to serve 16 youth during the current grant year instead of the 22-30 projected. Adult CBI Groups: AdHoc is continuing to provide CBI groups using Zoom video conferencing software for KCMO Municipal Court Drug Court offenders and probationers and parolees. Mental Health Court referrals were delayed due to COVID-19 until August 2020. Our facilitator adapted his methods to ensure Zoom participants were able to conduct the self-reflection exercises during and between sessions without the workbooks. We expect to meet our target of 54 total inmates and probationers/parolees to be served during the current grant year. REVIVE: AdHoc was supposed to begin serving youth victims of violence in the KUMC ER by April 2020. We are not allowed in due to the pandemic, but they began referrals July 20 for us to serve outside of the ER. Partners continue to meet and cross-train staff using "Caught in the Crossfire" model strategies and procedures. AdHoc is also working with the REVIVE team and KUMC to secure funding for the project. We expect to serve 120 mostly male victims and families in our first year. Finances: Our annual spring Community Guardians Awards banquet, the main fundraising event that nets around $90,000 each year in unrestricted funding, was cancelled. This is our primary source for administrative and operating expenses not covered by grants. Fortunately, HFF generously advanced payments for our current Applicant Defined and Mental Health grants, and converted them to general operating support. No "relief" was provided by Jackson County Community Backed Anti-Crime Tax (COMBAT) for their reimbursement-only grants, which accounts for almost $200,000 of our Mental Health services budget. We are still providing many of the services covered by our COMBAT grant, but without our banquet funds, it's difficult to meet payroll for these services until we are reimbursed. |
