What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Greater Berkley Chamber of Commerce is organized to advance the general welfare and prosperity of the Greater Berkley Area so that all areas of its business community shall prosper. All necessary means of promotion shall be provided and particular attention and emphasis shall be given to economic, civic, commercial, cultural, industrial and educational interests of the area.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 State of the Cities This annual event celebrates the Best of Berkley Business honorees, and the accomplishments of the Berkley Chamber, Berkley DDA, Berkley School District and the cities of Berkley and Huntington Woods. It gives another chance to spotlight why people should do business in Berkley. State of the Cities was held virtually in 2020.Berkley U Series These quarterly events showcase topics which help businesses grow and are presented by industry experts. The goal is to feature the latest trends, techniques, and strategies that will give our members an edge in the competitive, local business landscape. In 2020, two Berkley U Series were held, one in person and one virtually providing topics to help businesses survive in 2020. Chamber Chats/Blenders/Midday Meet-ups/Holiday Party Networking events where a member hosts at their location. Helps businesspeople connect with each other to support each others businesses. Chamber Chats were held monthly, hosted in person January and February and then virtually April through November, giving businesspeople a chance to connect with each other and support each other. Other networking meetings included Mid-day meetups at local restaurants in the beginning of 2020.Berkley Local Podcast Produces a monthly podcast show spotlighting businesses in Berkley, Oak Park and Huntington Woods. This is another way we help draw attention to local businesses with the hope that business increases for local Chamber members.During 2020, PPE items were purchased including masks, gloves, sanitizer and disinfectant and distributed it to member businesses free of charge helping those small businesses who were struggling due to COVID-19 restrictions to have less expenses. Offers promotional opportunities at discounted rates or are free to members to promote their business including every door postcard, Berkley Huntington Woods City Guide, Welcome to the Neighborhood packets, Welcome Back to School Packets. Increased the promotion of local businesses through social media. All of these targeted pieces encourage Berkley and Huntington Woods residents to shop and dine locally. Organized ribbon cuttings for new businesses in Berkley and then posted pictures on social media to promote and bring attention to the new businesses. Weekly E-newsletter goes out to members about business and community events, member news and other updates that will help businesses do business in Berkley while also promoting local chamber member businesses. A monthly email also goes to community members spotlighting upcoming events and promoting local businesses.
