For over 20 years, we have demonstrated our commitment to feeding the world through responsible and sustainable aquaculture. We do this by providing resources to individuals and businesses worldwide who are associated with aquaculture and seafood. We improve production practices through our partnerships with countries, communities and companies, as well as online learning and groundbreaking journalism that boasts active readership in every country of the world.

Form 990: During the year the Organization legally changed its name from Global Aquaculture Alliance to Global Seafood Alliance, Inc.
Form 990, Part III, line 2 During 2021, Global Seafood Assurances, Inc. (GSA), a related organization formally ceased operations and transfered all of its assets and activities to Global Seafood Alliance, Inc. Global Seafood Assurnaces, Inc. was established to meet marketplace expectations for assurances across the board in aquaculture and fisheries. Those assurances will flow from third-party certification programs that have been benchmarked by a combination of the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP) and will address integrated assurances for environmental responsibility, social responsibility, food safety and animal welfare. Global Seafood Alliance formally took over these initiatives during the year.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Form 990 was prepared by an independent outside accountant with the staff accountant. It will be reviewed by key staff and officers after filing with the IRS.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c Global Aquaculture Alliance implemented a conflict of interest policy in 2016. All officers and directors were required to sign the policy when it was implemented. The organization reviews the policy annually to determine any necessary updates. Beginning in early 2018, all officers, directors, and other key personnel were required to review and sign an updated statement on an annual basis and document any potential coflicts of interest.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The Board reviews and approves compensation for the organization's officers annually, and documents the discussion in writing.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements available to the public upon request.
Form 990, Part VII, Section A, Column D: The 2021 compensation reported for William Herzig was paid for his services as a contracted service provider to Global Seafood Alliance. Mr. Herzig was not compensated for serving as a Global Seafood Alliance Board member.

Form 990, Part XII: Finalization of the Organization's records for internal book purposes is not yet complete because certain matters that could have an impact on the financial statements have not been resolved. As a result, the Organization's reviewed financial statements have not yet been issued. To meet the extended filing deadline of November 15, 2022, this tax return is prepared based on information available at this time, and to the best of the organization's knowledge is complete and accurate as currently presented. However, it is being filed with the possibility and even expectation that the potential changes described above will require the filing of an amended return once the reviewed financial statements are completed by an independent public accounting firm.
