WE PROVIDED INSTRUCTIONAL AND LEARNING RESOURCES INCLUDING TEXTBOOKS AND TEACHING MATERIALS. WE INCREASED ACCESS BY ENROLLING STUDENTS IN THE SATELLITE COMMUNITIES. IN 2021, WE TRANSITIONED ALL 68 OVERAGE AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN FROM THE REMEDIAL PROGRAM TO THE REGULAR SCHOOL PROGRAM. ALL THESE CHILDREN ARE CAUGHT-UP AND ARE DOING WELL IN THEIR RESPECTIVE GRADES. IN 2021, WE SERVED 140 STUDENTS IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DIVISION. WE HAVE NORMALIZED THE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM ALLOWING STUDENTS TO ENROLL IN PRE-SCHOOL AT AGE 3. THIS ALLOWS MORE CHILDREN TO BEGIN 1ST GRADE AT 6 YEARS OLD, THUS CREATING ROOM FOR AGE-APPROPRIATE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOMS. WE KEPT FEES AT A MINIMUM, THUS ALLOWING ALL STUDENTS TO ENROLL. FOR MANY OUT-OF-SCHOOL & OVER-AGE CHILDREN - REBUILD AFRICA PROVIDED AN ACCELERATED EDUCATION PROGRAM CALLED SECOND CHANCE. BASED ON THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM, IT COVERS THE FOUR CORE SUBJECTS OF MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND ENGLISH WITH AN ADDITIONAL FOCUS ON LIFE SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP. IT COMPRESSES THREE GRADE-LEVELS (1 - 3) OVER 10 MONTHS. 68 CHILDREN WERE ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM THIS YEAR. AS NOTED ABOVE, ALL 68 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN TRANSITIONED TO THE REGULAR SCHOOL PROGRAM. TEACHER TRAINING & CERTIFICATION - REBUILD AFRICA CONTINUES TO HIRE A CERTIFIED TEACHER TRAINING ORGANIZATION TO TRAIN NEW AND EXISTING TEACHERS. ALL TEACHERS AND STAFF WERE PROVIDED CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON A WEEKLY BASIS. REFRESHER TRAINING COURSES WERE PROVIDED IN SIX SPECIFIC AREAS WHILE THE WEEKLY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) SESSIONS FOCUSED ON TROUBLESHOOTING TEACHING CHALLENGES AND HELPING NEW TEACHERS TO IMPROVE THEIR TEACHING SKILLS. IN ADDITION TO IN-HOUSE TRAINING, REBUILD AFRICA CONDUCTED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TRAINING FOR TEACHERS IN 42 PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND A MATH REFRESHER SEMINAR FOR 27 JUNIOR HIGH MATH TEACHERS. WE ALSO CONDUCTED BUDGET PREPARATIION TRAINING FOR SCHOOL ADMINSTRATORS FROM 48 PUBLIC SCHOOLS. 7TH - 9TH EDUCATION - IN 2021, REBUILD AFRICA CONTINUED TO IMPROVE AND BUILD ON THE ALREADY RIGOROUS ACADEMIC AND COLLEGE PREPARATORY CURRICULUM WHICH COMBINES ADADEMIC, VOCATIONAL, AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION THAT FOSTERS ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ETHICAL LEADERSHIP. EACH 9TH GRADER PASSED THE NATIONAL EXAM - A TESTAMENT TO THE STRONG ACADEMIC FOUNDATION PROVIDED. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (LDSP) - A FOUR-YEAR TUITION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, LDSP IS DESIGNED TO INVEST IN THE EDUCATION OF LESS FORTUNATE YOUTHS ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES ACROSS LIBERIA. SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING AND MENTORING IS PROVIDED IN CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM-SOLVING, WRITING, RESEARCH, AND PUBLIC-SPEAKING. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN HANDS-ON COMMUNITY PROJECTS. THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM HAS BENEFITED OVER 53 STUDENTS. IN 2021, REBUILD AFRICA SUPPORTED SEVENTEEN STUDENTS ENROLLED IN VARIOUS LIBERIA UNIVERSITIES. |
