THE CARES ACT WAS CREATED TO PROVIDE ECONOMIC ASSISTANCE FOR AMERICAN WORKERS, FAMILIES, AND SMALL BUSINESSES, AND PRESERVE JOBS IN THE UNITED STATES. UNDER THE CARES ACT, THE DEPARTMENT OF TREASURY IMPLEMENTED THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION'S ("SBA") PAYROLL PROTECTION PROGRAM ("PPP"), WHICH PROVIDES LOANS FOR BUSINESSES, NONPROFITS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WITH 500 OR FEWER EMPLOYEES THAT MEET SPECIFIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS. UNDER THE ACT, THE SBA HAS FORGIVEN THE LOANS IF BENEFICIARY ORGANIZATIONS MEET THE CRITERIA DETERMINED BY THE SBA. ON APRIL 6, 2020, AJWS APPLIED FOR THE SBA'S PPP AND WAS GRANTED APPROVAL. AJWS RECEIVED LOAN PROCEEDS TOTALING $2,132,540 ON APRIL 10, 2020.
