THE PIES WERE GIVEN WITH A BOXED THANKSGIVING MEAL TO FAMILIES WHO WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD A THANKSGIVING MEAL. CHANDLER SERVICE CLUB ALSO CONTRIBUTED FUNDS FOR ICANS ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER. DURING 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR, WE PROVIDED FUNDS TO SEVERAL FAMILIES WITHIN THE CHANDLER COMMUNITY THAT WERE IN AN EMERGENCY CRISIS. CHANDLER SERVICE CLUB PROVIDED SUPPORT FOR HOMELESS HIGH SCHOOL CHILDREN AND EMERGENCY CLOTHING FOR MULTIPLE TEENS AND CHILDREN IN NEED IN THE CHANDLER COMMUNITY. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: KIDS ON THEIR OWN (KOTO)GIVEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC YEAR; CHANDLER SERVICE CLUBS KIDS ON THEIR OWN (KOTO) PROGRAM IS A DIRECT RESPONSE TO THE ASTONISHING RATE OF HOMELESS FAMILIES AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITHIN THE CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT. | SCHOLARSHIPS, CONTINUED | JEWEL LEWIS AND HELEN PERNELL SCHOLARSHIPS: CHANDLER SERVICE CLUB ADMINISTERS AN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR CHANDLER CITIZENS PURSUING POST-SECONDARY DEGREES AT ARIZONA COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES, ONE YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED TO NEW AND RETURNING COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE FINANCIAL NEED, EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES, AND BARRIERS TO ACHIEVING A COLLEGE EDUCATION. IN 2021-2022, 11 APPLICANTS WERE CHOSEN TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. |
| WEEKENDERS FOOD PROGRAM, CONTINUED | GIVEN THE PANDEMIC (COVID-19) YEAR; WORKING DIRECTLY WITH CHANDLER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TO IDENTIFY CHILDREN IN NEED, THE CLUB PROVIDES FOOD FOR CHILDREN TO TAKE HOME EACH WEEKEND DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT CHILDREN WHO HAVE HEALTHY WEEKEND DIETS, COME TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY ALERT AND READY TO LEARN, WITH THEIR SELF-ESTEEM AND HEALTH INTACT. CHANDLER SERVICE CLUB PURCHASES FOOD FROM A LOCAL FOOD BANK, PACKS IT IN INDIVIDUAL BAGS AND DELIVERS IT DIRECTLY TO SCHOOL NURSES, WHO THEN DISTRIBUTE THE FOOD TO THE CHILDREN. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED DURING INTERSESSION BREAKS, THESE CHILDREN RECEIVED A $20 GROCERY VOUCHER, ALLOWING THEM TO PURCHASE FOOD FROM A LOCAL GROCER. THROUGHOUT THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 1,900 CHILDREN FROM 28 SCHOOLS WERE GIVEN WEEKENDERS BAGS EACH WEEK. ADDITIONALLY, OVER $38,000 GROCERY STORE VOUCHERS WERE REDEEMED DURING THE FALL, WINTER, SPRING AND SUMMER INTERSESSION BREAKS. IN TOTAL, CHANDLER SERVICE CLUB MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED OVER 750 HOURS OF PACKING AND DELIVERING FOOD TO CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY. |
