Briefly describe the organization’s mission: The Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area (AABA) has been the voice of the San Francisco Bay Areas Asian Pacific American (APA) legal community since 1976. AABA fosters professional development, community, and service. We are advocates and allies for civil rights, representation, and equality.

2021 was a banner year for AABA, we successfully put on over 70 virtual events, and (towards the end of the year) started to cautiously bring our members together to celebrate our AABA family. We are particularly proud of our continuing mentorship efforts that saw over 100 young APA attorneys mentored, a dozen senior associates mentored on the Pathway to Partnership, and over 20 Judicial candidates evaluated and recommended to the Governor. Our 45th Annual Gala was virtual, and featured California Attorney General Rob Bonta. AABA continued to make an impact in the community, supporting the great work of Stop AAPI hate, holding bystander trainings, and holding legal clinics for victims of violence against APA individuals/businesses.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 2: Description of Business or Family Relationship of Officers, Directors, Et Due to the nature of AABA as a professional organization, several board members are partners or associates at large law firms and have either directly or indirectly represented corporations (such as banks) in which other board members are employed. In addition, the law firms of several board members have provided pro bono representation to non-profit or community organizations in which other board members are employed.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 6: Explanation of Classes of Members or Shareholder Members vote on officers and open spots on the board of directors each year. Voting is done online and members who are current members for the year are eligible for voting.
