bThe form in which applications should be submitted and information and materials they should include:
To submit an application, applicants may go to the Foundation's online grant portal to set up an account. Onion Foundation Spring/Fall Cycle Grants are intended to support organizations or projects that align with the Foundation's mission priority areas of Arts & Environment within the state of Maine. In 2022 the Onion Foundation is giving organizations the option of requesting general operating funds based on the experiences of our nonprofit partners. If an organization's work is entirely in either the arts or environment sectors and aligns with the Foundation's priorities, an applicant may request general operating support. If an organization's work is in support of a broader mission and the arts and environment are only a part of an applicant's programming, an organization may request project/program support. The Foundation evaluates an organization's proposal just on the information requested through the application form.
    cAny submission deadlines:
Applications for this upcoming year's Cycle are due September 30, 2022, and March 2, 2023.
dAny restrictions or limitations on awards, such as by geographical areas, charitable fields, kinds of institutions, or other
    factors:
To apply for and receive a grant your organization must be a 501(c)(3) public charity as designated by the IRS, operating under a fiscal sponsor who is a qualified 501(c)(3) public charity, a public education institution, or a Maine municipality. The organization and/or the project must be based in Maine and focused on benefitting Maine's people; the Foundation will also typically only award grants to organizations that align with the Foundation's mission and values. Grant recipients are required to report progress on their projects. Spring & Fall Cycle Grants range between $5,000 and $20,000. Organizations are eligible to receive one Spring or Fall grant per calendar year.

bThe form in which applications should be submitted and information and materials they should include:
To submit an application, applicants may go to the Foundation's online grant portal to set up an account. The Onion Foundation's Discovery grants are intended for small scale projects in the arts or environment that align with the mission and priorities of the Foundation that may lead to a discovery - a new learning or innovative approach. These grants offer a chance to try something new (not a variant on existing work), which could include pilot programs or professional or organizational development such as strategic planning or equity, inclusion, diversity and justice work. Discovery Grant asks can range from $1,000 to $5,000. Discovery Grants are one-time investments and are not designed to be repeated for the same project in future years.
    cAny submission deadlines:
Open from January to November with decisions made on a rolling basis.
dAny restrictions or limitations on awards, such as by geographical areas, charitable fields, kinds of institutions, or other
    factors:

The organization and/or the project must be based in Maine and focused on benefitting Maine's people; the Foundation will only award grants to organizations that align with the Foundation's mission and values.
