| General explanation attachment | Met with County Economic Development to discuss the importance of Service Enterprise and how it can help local nonprofits in their 2020 recovery efforts. That is building capacity and re-engaging volunteers effectively. The information was well received and we then presented it to the County Workforce Development Board to provide them with some insight into SE, explaining more about the vital tools and resources that the program offers.Working with several young nonprofit organizations, providing consulting work in the areas of operations, technology, and volunteer engagement. We have also utilized the Youth Work Development Program interns to work with these organizations in specific projects including website design and social media. VCSJ has provided volunteer engagement training to these organizations helping them to discover new volunteer positions that have meaningful impact, while assisting in their mission critical needs. Our consulting services on the VIP 2.0 Program also helped two organizations in their volunteer recruitment efforts for upcoming events. 2022 has re-opened many doors, as more NPOs are reengaging with in-person events and programs. In particular VCSJ had helped to recruit over 500 volunteers in just about two months time, through coaching and training on effective volunteer recruitment, assisting in preparation of more clear volunteer job descriptions, a focus on more volunteer target marketing, and using the Get Connected volunteer management tool as it was intended. Both organizations were especially pleased with the online portal provided by VCSJ, as well as the personal coaching and guidance that we provided. Testimonial: Hi Michele, I just wanted to reach out and say thank you so much to you and SJ Volunteers for assisting with getting people to volunteer. We had over two hundred volunteers come yesterday, with many just showing up the day of and asking to help out. We were very pleased with how easy your site was to navigate and with collecting volunteer information. -Colin Shea, Volunteer Coordinator from Mainstage Center of the Arts in Camden County. VCSJ continues Volunteer Engagement Training recently enhanced by the Supportive Environment for Effectiveness (SEE) framework developed by reDirect.org. There are three components to the SEE, they are: 1. Model Building - How are we giving volunteers (board members) the information they need to succeed and be excited about the work without overwhelming them? 2. Being Capable - How are we creating space for volunteers (board members) to take care of themselves while they bring their skills and interests to the work? 3. Meaningful Action - How are we ensuring that volunteers (board members) know they are making an impact? This framework allows those who engage and manage volunteers to thoughtfully develop their volunteer engagement practices through the Volunteer Experience (or volunteer eyes). This also allows volunteer managers to see and break down barriers to include more individuals into their volunteer initiatives. VCSJ is part of Points of Light Learning Circle with ReDirect.org to evaluate all of the VCSJ programs within the organization, not just volunteer engagements. Seeing the work through this lens opens the doors to new opportunities, new volunteers and more meaningful/impactful work. VCSJs partnership with Rowan College of South Jersey has begun to collaborate to introduce the Jersey Cares Youth Workforce Development program in South Jersey. The partnership will allow VCSJ to tap into both campuses of RCSJ. The plan is to extend the model to other colleges in South Jersey. VCSJ is also launching the Jersey Cares Club, a community service learning initiative that includes community-mapping, project planning and implementation in South Jersey School communities. The first club will launch in February 2022 with the Mantua Township School District. The model and work done by the students will encourage other area schools to get involved. VCSJ was highlighted and featured in the South Jersey Biz Magazines November issue. https://digital.southjersey.com/issue/4/4471/0/0/November-2021/South-Jersey-BIZ The Volunteer Center has been able to provide more of a focus on capacity building objectives in 2021-22. This is due mostly in part because of the COVID protocols and restrictions are being lifted. VCSJ has provided Volunteer Engagement training to 15 nonprofit organizations during FYE2022. A new Volunteer Engagement training cohort begins every other month and runs a six part series over six weeks. The training includes an evaluation from each session that is completed by participants. The new volunteer engagement training curriculum includes a diversity , equity and inclusion components. These added elements provide an open platform to discuss the need to engage volunteers in the communities that our partners serve and how we break down the barriers that prevent them from volunteering. These barriers might include transportation, childcare, unnecessary background check requirements, etc. Also included in this revised curriculum, is the tools and resources to help volunteer managers/coordinators see the volunteer experience through the volunteers eyes. How do we attract the right volunteers, how do we keep them engaged and how important it is that they can see and realize the impact that their service provides.VCSJ continues to lead the New Jersey Youth Service Collaborative with partners from the Governors Offices on Volunteerism and VGF colleague, United Way of Northern New Jersey. This initiative will be added in Year 3 of the current grant cycle and will bring together all of the youth service opportunities across the State to a one-stop shop website. This will address the need to make it easy for youth to become more engaged. We are also working with Youth Service America in this effort. For September 11th in 2022, the VCSJ continued to promote and recruit volunteers to give back in their own way, providing several volunteer opportunities and resources to get engaged on these Days of Service and Remembrance.VCSJ has signed on 20 new Nonprofit organizations, who are using the Get Connected site to post volunteer needs and events. With our guidance they are also using the volunteer management functionality more than ever before. Now that in-person events are happening more, VCSJ has been participating in a number of networking events and tabling events in an effort to continue our volunteer engagement work. In November 2021, VCSJ hosted its 5th annual Making a Difference Together fair to celebrate National Family Volunteer Day on November 18, 2021 bringing together families who completed service projects for local nonprofit agencies. Over 40 families attended the event, meeting 15 local nonprofits and completed several family friendly projects, serving local needs. |
