What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote good citizenship, peace and security.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 The American Legion Auxiliary Green Valley Unit 66 holds Auxiliary lunches every Friday and meals every Wednesday evening and one Thursday per month. We also hold a Poppy Drive each year, with all the proceeds going to the Tucson VA Hospital. During the year, we hold raffles and two Craft Bazaars with all the proceeds going to veterans' programs, American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, and scholarships for two local high schools. The profits from these programs go to support the veterans and their families in the American Legion Post 66 and for programs within the state of Arizona. Explanation:

We sent the form in via the traditional mail believing that was the correct method in the before the deadline. Our fiscal year was 2021-2022, ending June 30, 2022. In our minds, this is our 2021 report. So, our belief was that we needed to send via mail rather than email. We apologize that this was not the proper method for delivery. I have been on a cruise vacation from Dec. 7-22, spending Christmas with my husband and his daughter when we returned to LA until the 26th. When we returned, I found the information in the Auxiliary mail saved for me, which I picked up on the 27th. After I got everything filled out with the online forms from the IRS website, I went looking for how to send them to you via email; it looks like I have to use a third-party app. I found through the IRS website that I could use Form 990 Online to file via email. I received my log-in, etc., and filled out everything a second time thinking I had done everything correctly. However, when I got everything filled out, it said everything is down until mid-January. I called and talked to someone at the IRS office. Her number was 1004046286. She suggested I call back after January 3rd and was told the system was still being updated. I called again the week of January 16th and was told the system was still not finished being updated. I explained that I was deeply concerned about the letter I received stating there was a $20 per day charge and that I have been unable to send the information. She suggested I send this letter along with my information as soon as your systems open back up, and ask that you remove any potential penalties that may occur. We have tried to follow the system to the best of our abilities, but it has been impossible. I ask that you please remove any penalties that may have occurred. I've been told all systems are up and running as of January 23rd, so I am trying to fill out everything once again with Form 990 Online. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
