What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? To serve the needs and improve the lives of veterans and deployed active duty personnel and their families as well as to provide inspiration to the youth of our community through programs to develop good citizenship such as Boys and Girls State programs and Flag Respect and Education. We provide avenues for veterans to utilize the services that other organizations offer, offering social activities for veterans, publishing a newsletter, providing financial and other assistance and information on benefits available to them.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Operation Enduring Care. We provide personal care and hygiene items for our resident patients at Northport VA Medical Center. We also support the United Veterans Beacon House Homeless Veterans Shelter on the VA grounds with food, snacks personal care and hygiene items socks and underwear and other items there are between 40 and 60 veterans in residence at any given time. We also partner with the HUD / VASH program at the VA providing assistance to the over 300 veterans being provided housing support. Donations are in-kind donations only.

29 Boys and Girls State. We provide tuition to as many as 22 local high school to attend The American Legion and Auxiliary Department of New York Boys State and Girls State programs. summer leadership and citizenship programs for high school juniors, which focus on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics.

American Legion Riders. Our program for motorcycle enthusiasts. They consist of both veterans and members of our Sons of The American Legion Squadron. They provide escorts and flag lines for veterans throughout our community, participate in patriotic events. Their annual "Turkey Run" at Thanksgiving provides a holiday meal with fixings for over a dozen local veterans. They raise money and donate to veterans charities and individual veterans.
