What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The District exists to run ACBL-sanctioned regional bridge tournaments and other multi-level bridge competitions in WA and BC and to promote bridge as a recreational activity in general.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 After a two-year Covid-induced hiatus, the District resumed holding its regionally-rated ACBL-sanctioned bridge tournaments in 2022. Tournaments were held in Penticton and Whistler, BC, and in Lynnwood and Leavenworth, WA. Tournaments across the ACBL have been averaging about 50-55% of pre-Covid attendance numbers and this was reflected in our tournaments. Additionally, the District held qualifying tournaments for both the Grand National Teams and North American Pairs. in order to attract attendance, the NAP tournament was held at no charge to the players. Unlike many other ACBL districts, District 19 was able to minimize our losses through good financial management and strong support from local governments and tourism associations in Penticton, BC, and Leavenworth, WA, (who both wanted to encourage tourists to come back following Covid). Grants were given to qualifying players in the GNT and NAP events.

Return Reference Explanation
Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 10 Players who qualify to represent the District in higher levels of play receive subsidies to attend those events. In 2022, the District issued $2,000 subsidies to two teams (four players/team) of Canadian players and two teams of American players. The District also issued $1,200 subsidies to two teams of American players so all six teams could attend the ACBL's Grand National Teams finals. Total: $10,400 The District also issued $300 subsidies to two pairs of American players to attend the ACBL North American Pairs finals. Total: $600.
