BIG ARTS PRESENTED 17 EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCES, 9 THOUGHT-PROVOKING FORUM LECTURES, 7 STIMULATING TALKING POINTS DISCUSSIONS, 6 UNIQUE FINE ARTS EXHIBITS, 34 OUTSTANDING FILMS, 4 UPLIFTING CHORUS AND BAND CONCERTS, A TRIUMPHAL ANNUAL BENEFIT, A FUN FAMILY-ORIENTED OPEN HOUSE AND BARBECUE, ART VIBE FEATURING AN EXHIBIT BY STUDENT ARTISTS FROM FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE COLLEGE WITH A FREE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE IN THE GARDEN BY A LOCAL COLLEGE BAND, AS WE L AS NUMEROUS CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, AND OTHER EVENTS. WE ALSO HOSTED COLLABORATIONS WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS SUCH AS GULFSHORE BALLET AND THE SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SYMPHONY. THE PAST FEW YEARS HAVE BEEN DIFFICULT, BUT BIG ARTS CONTINUES TO MARCH FORWARD TO UPHOLD ITS MISSION OF CREATING QUALITY ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT INSPIRE AND ENRICH THE LIVES OF YOUTH, INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES ON THE ISLANDS. OVERVIEW OF 2021-2022 PROGRAMMING FINE ARTS THIS YEAR, BIG ARTS PRESENTED 6 ART EXHIBITS IN THE DUNHAM FAMILY GALLERY. EXHIBITS INCLUDED BIG ARTS JURIED EXHIBIT "CREATIVE VENTURES," THE SANIBEL-CAPTIVA ART LEAGUE'S "AWAKENING" AS WELL AS INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS "ALBERTO CHAILOSKY - LOST BUT NOT FORGOTTEN- AND "CHERYL FAUSEL, KATHLEEN CONOVER, SHAH HADJEBI - WET PAINT." IN ADDITION, BIG ARTS PARTNERED WITH THE LEE HEALTH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM TO FEATURE THE WORKS OF YOUTH AND ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE EXHIBIT "ART BY THE DISABLED." BIG ARTS ALSO COLLABORATED WITH FLORIDA SOUTHWESTERN STATE COLLEGE TO SHOWCASE THE WORK OF COLLEGE STUDENTS. THE STUDENT ARTISTS NOT ONLY PARTICIPATED IN THE EXHIBIT BUT WERE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR CURATING AND SETTING UP THE SHOW. COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS BA BAND AND CHORUS CONCERTS - OVER 135 VOLUNTEER MUSICIANS AND SINGERS PERFORMED 4 CONCERTS AT BIG ARTS AND SEVERAL SHOWS AT VARIOUS VENUES IN THE COMMUNITY GULFSHORE BA LET - 3 PERFORMANCES AT BA SWFL SYMPHONY - 2 PERFORMANCES AT BA CLASSES MORE THAN 60 UNIQUE CLASSES INCLUDING: PAINTING - MEDIUMS: OILS, PASTELS, ACRYLICS, WATERCOLOR, & ALCOHOL INKS DRAWING - DRAWING FROM PHOTOGRAPHIC REFERENCES & DRAWING BASICS. MEDIUMS: CHARCOAL & COLORED PENCIL ON TONED PAPER. FINE CRAFTS - GLASS FUSING, BASKET WEAVING & STONE SCULPTING PHOTOGRAPHY - PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS, INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED WRITING - THE JOY OF CREATIVE WRITING & A NON-FICTION WRITING WORKSHOP FILM SERIES MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES- THIS YEAR'S MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES INCLUDED 26 AWARD WINNING INTERNATIONAL & INDEPENDENT FILMS, FOLLOWED BY A MODERATED DISCUSSION. FILMS THIS SEASON INCLUDED MY WONDERFUL WANDA, THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS, HIVE, & BELFAST. ETHICS IN FILM - A 4-PART SERIES ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS WITH POST FILM DISCUSSIONS LED BY A DARTMOUTH PROF. EMERITUS FOR THE STUDY OF ETHICS & HUMAN VALUES. FILMS THIS SEASON INCLUDED EYE IN THE SKY, THE COURIER, MINARI, & DARKEST HOUR. DOCUMENTARY SERIES - THIS SEASON'S DOCUMENTARY SERIES INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING FOUR FILMS: NEVER TOO LATE, MUSEUM TOWN, ROADRUNNER, AND AILEY. PERFORMING ARTS A TOTAL OF 18 PERFORMANCES WERE SCHEDULED FOR THE 2021-2022 SEASON; HOWEVER ONE WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THE LINE-UP THIS YEAR INCLUDED AN ARRAY OF GENRES & ARTISTS: VERONICA SWIFT, JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER, SMOKEY & ME, RHYTHM OF THE DANCE FROM DUBLIN, POPOVICH COMEDY PET THEATER, HEART BY HEART, HOT CLUB OF COW TOWN, AQUILA THEATRE'S THE GREAT GATSBY, AND CLASSICAL ARTISTS WINDSYNC, GRYPHON TRIO, DREW PETERSEN, AMERICAN STRING QUARTET & HADELICH & WEISS. THE TOP FOUR PROGRAMS WERE POPULAR MUSIC, CLASSICAL MUSIC, FINE ARTS AND THE FORUM LECTURE SERIES. |
