WNPA OPERATES MORE THAN 78 PARK STORES IN VISITOR CENTERS AT 71 NATIONAL PARK SERVICE UNITS ACROSS 12 WESTERN STATES, OFFERING THOUSANDS OF INTERPRETIVE AND EDUCATIONAL BOOKS AND OTHER PRODUCTS. THESE BOOKS AND PRODUCTS PROVIDE MEANINGFUL AND LONG-TERM CONNECTIONS TO THE PARKS. WNPA WAS FOUNDED IN 1938 AS A NONPROFIT PUBLISHING PARTNER TO HELP THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE CONNECT PEOPLE WITH THEIR PARKS. WE CONTINUE THAT TRADITION WITH AWARD-WINNING, WELL-RESEARCHED, BEAUTIFULLY ENGAGING BOOKS TO HELP VISITORS LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR PARTNER PARKS. MORE THAN 200 PUBLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY IN PRINT. NEW BOOKS ARE PUBLISHED ANNUALLY, INCLUDING PARK-RELEVANT EDUCATIONAL PUBLICATIONS. WNPA ALSO PUBLISHES JUNIOR RANGER BOOKLETS FOR PARK VISITORS AVAILABLE AT NO CHARGE. THE ASSOCIATION HAD AN IN-PERSON PRESENCE AT THE TUCSON FESTIVAL OF BOOKS AND LOOKS FORWARD TO RETURNING TO ITS MAJOR SPONSORSHIP AND LARGER FOOTPRINT IN 2023. VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF PARTICIPATED IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS, INCLUDING THE SOUTHEAST AZ BIRDING FESTIVAL, TUCSON MEET YOURSELF, AND LITERACY, SCIENCE, EARTH DAY, AND CYCLING FESTIVALS. STAFF PARTICIPATED, ALONG WITH PARK PARTNERS, IN THE RODEO AND PRIDE PARADES. WNPA AND SAGUARO NP LAUNCHED THE LONG-AWAITED MOBILE VISITOR CENTER THAT WILL ENABLE WNPA AND PARK STAFF THE ABILITY TO "BRING THE PARKS TO THE PEOPLE." WNPA PROVIDED PROGRAM SUPPLIES, AND PROGRAM STAFF PROVIDED AN EDUCATIONAL SESSION TO PARTICIPANTS OF THE JR RANGER BASE CAMP AT THE JOHN VALENZUELA YOUTH CENTER. WNPA PROVIDED FUNDING FOR YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS WITH SIMILAR MISSIONS, INCLUDING PARKS IN FOCUS, A PROGRAM THAT CONNECTS MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH TO NATURE THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY, ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, OUTDOOR RECREATION, AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION, IRONWOOD TREE EXPERIENCE, A PROGRAM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO ENGAGE WITH THE NATURAL WORLD AND BE STEWARDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT. PROGRAM STAFF PRESENTED WITH YOUTH PROGRAM AND PARK PARTNERS ON COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PROGRAMS AT THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR INTERPRETATION NATIONAL CONFERENCE. |

THE ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN NATIONAL PARKS WITH GRANTS AWARDED TO QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS AND INSTITUTIONS. GRANTS ARE USED TO SUPPORT A WIDE RANGE OF RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT HELP CREATE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PARKS, INCLUDING THE NATURAL RESOURCES; THE CULTURE AND HERITAGE OF THE PEOPLE WHO ONCE LIVED THERE; AND THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL HISTORY AT THE PARK SITES.
