Activities & Governance 1 Briefly describe the organization’s mission or most significant activities: We are part of a world-wide military combat veteran organization and advocacy group. Members must have served in overseas areas in combat with organizations hostile to the USA, instead of our own shores. WE support and advocate for our members, both Veterans and Active Duty, their surviving families and other local organizations of the same objectives. We advocate for proper healthcare treatment for illnesses, and injuries specific to war-time related service and sacrifice. We provide, at no cost, Military Honors at our local VA National cemetery, flag dedication ceremonies at local establishments and other ceremonials, all the way down to replacing water heaters at the homes of deployed service members. We take care of our own, regardless of our sacrifices.

Briefly describe the organization’s mission: We are a part of a world-wide military combat veterans support organization and advocacy group. Members must have served in hostile combat missions against organizations hostile toward the USA or its Allies. We support our nations veterans, either as Veterans, their survivors, families and other similar veteran support organizations. We advocate for veterans ongoing medical, psychological care they suffer due to their direct service. We provide a place where veterans can find comradery amongst those who have experienced similar stresses and traumas both physical and emotional. We provide Military Honors at our local VA National Cemetery, flag and memorial events, at no charge. All our services are provided by volunteers from within at no cost. We also support through member contributions the Veterans of Foreign Wars Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.

Our Honor Guard provides military burial rituals to Vets and their families. This reporting year we provided 61 burial ceremonies, down significantly due to COVID. We provide members with uniforms and insignia, as requested. We provide Veteran awareness programs of historical nature to local schools and fraternal organizations at least 12 times a year. We make nursing home visits for older infirm vets on a regular basis. We provide support to homeless vets, Goodwill and Salvation Army facilities, soup kitchens. We assist vets in need with assistance in dealing with the VA and state agencies as needed. We provide transportation to medical appointments, arrange discounted dental services, bandaging, crutches/walkers, etc. Recipients are required to provide documentation of service, with honorable discharge or VA cards.

Veterans In Need (VIN's) are our largest outside expense. We provide occasional funds for food and clothing (in arrangement with Goodwill or Salvation Army). We have adopted our local National Guard unit and normally provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners (served at their facility). We host and sponsor (no veteran connection required) our local Toys For Tots program donation pick-ups and distribution to families. We contributed 250 hours of service this last year and helped distribute over 135,000 toys for kids. We provide a full-blown Christmas party at a local foster home complete with gifts and Santa, based on "Letters to Santa" requests. We, and Santa, provided 38 "home visits" to deliver gifts to kids whose parents are unable to get to our distribution events.

Part III, Line 1a We are known in town as a repository for memorabilia of deceased veterans that the family can't care for, or are unwanted by younger generations. These items are considered as "Respected Treasures". We routinely store and rotate these items in places of honor within our Post. Most often these items are medals, insignia, photo albums and letters from vets in war zones, etc. We also have a depository for old flags that are no longer serviceable. We commence ritualized destruction of these flags according to strict regulations directed by VFW National. We routinely destroy six hundred pounds of flags, twice a year. We do not assign values to memorabilia as such value is subjective and there is no formula to attribute a value of one medal over another. We apply this rule to every donation, allowing the donor to assign values for tax purposes. We have no relics or memorabilia of what we or a public sale could describe as "of collectible value". Our education programs are managed by volunteers, at no cost. Our sponsored educational programs are directed by National. We annually hold essay contests for middle and high school students with awards of from $50 to $100 and opportunities to compete at the state and national levels for scholarships of up to $10,000 (not our cost - it's a National Program.)
Part III, Line 4 These memorabilia are medals and other simple items earned by veterans during their time in service. They have little or no value except to another Vet. Art work is simple and we have no original pieces of art. We have an agreement with Goodwill and Salvation Army to take old uniforms as we do not encourage resale at discount stores an honorable thing to do. We keep very few uniforms (collectibles would be WWI uniforms) and burn the rest during our flag reduction ceremonies.

Part VI, Line 11b 10a) We have a nationally chartered Auxiliary (formerly Ladies and Men's Auxiliary) that have been combined into simply the Auxiliary. They are a separately chartered organization with a national office, separate by-laws and membership requirements. Funding is decided by each organization and splits are decided during House Committee meetings.

Part VIII, Line 3 This number was interest earned during the year. This account is a Money Market account we use strictly as a savings account to park funds until we need it. The overall amount is too large to leave in our checking account. We've been hacked in years past and it didn't seem prudent to carry the total amount in one account that is more vulnerable than a savings account.

Explanation:
I, Peter Beisler, was the elected Post Quartermaster with responsibilities for all financial filings of the Post. In the winter of 2021 I suffered a heart attack and a mild stroke and took considerable time off work. I was able to accomplish payroll and pay everyday bills, but little else. There was no one available to take over my responsibilities except for a short period immediately after my medical incidents, but he had a full -time job already. BLuntly, we're a bunch of old fat guys trying to keep our organization viable and surviving. It's getting harder to recruit a younger generation; they have careers, families and responsibilities and cultural changes are different these days. I completely forgot about these returns needing to be refiled electronically until my official health forced retirement. I had completed both 2020 and 2021 returns and mailed them to where I had mailed earlier returns. They were returned with instructions mandating electronic filing. I made every effort to find a local accountant to file our returns, (I was stumped when it came to that type of requirement. I barely get by opening my emails.) but not one of them wanted anything to do with a long-form 990 even though I have complete faith in our numbers with all the back-up documents to prove it. It seems like the term 990 is tantamount to the black plague to those brave CPA's who would even bother to return my telephone calls. On-line submissions were exorbitant, and I knew they were prescreening returns and wanting to charge us $500 to "do a full review" of the return when I am sure of our numbers. We just had to replace our Post roof after Hurricane Ian and Idalia. The roof and all the ceilings in our main hall had to be replaced because of water damage. We borrowed to do that and we're not done yet. Without that Hall we lose rental revenues and with the black mold the Health Department isn't happy either. I plead for relief from any heavy penalties caused by my crappy memory. There was nothing other members could have done to help because I didn't intentionally not file - I did, just the wrong way and with all the other stuff going on, I simply forgot. 7 or 8 years ago we had almost 1,000 members. Today we are down to under 450 with only 3 World War II veterans left. We survive on donations from an absolute Angel, but he is ending his commitment to us next January.
