I was unaware of the Taxpayer First Act which requires tax-exempt organizations to electronically file information returns and related forms for tax years ending on or after July 1, 2021. I am a volunteer of the Mabel Business Association and have been the treasurer for quite a few years. As soon as I received the LTR 2695C on December 22, 2022 I contacted the IRS at the toll free number and was told I had to wait until a little later in January to file the return since some of the offices were closed. I went ahead and set up a username and password for myself to file the return. I contacted the IRS toll free number again when I realized I still couldn't file the return electronically using my new username and password under ID.me. I was told I had to use a Modernized e-file provider to file the 990-EZ. I have been working on the return the last week or so and since it is my first time filing electronically it has been a slower process and have been getting kicked out of the system periodically. I will ensure the Mabel Business Association members know the tax returns need to be filed electronically going forward. Please accept my sincere apology for not filing the return electronically and for the return being filed so late. I have been working on this return since January 1st and have had issues along the way with the Form 990 Online accepting my inputs and not letting me finish the 990EZ return.
