IF WE CAN CONNECT THEM TO A RESOURCE THAT IS ALREADY AVAILABLE, LIKE A LOCAL FOOD BANK OR SOCIAL SERVICES, WE DO SO. IF THAT SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE OR UNDERREPRESENTED, WE FIND A METHOD TO MEET THAT NEED. THIS PAST YEAR, WE GAVE AWAY A WASHING MACHINE, DIAPERS, AND WIPES, REPAIRED A MOTHER'S PLUMBING, HOSTED A CHRISTMAS COOKIE AND CRAFT PARTY, PROVIDED FREE LAY AND PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING, AND OFFERED FREE CLOTHING, FURNITURE, AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH LOCAL CONSIGNMENT SHOPS AND PRIVATE DONATIONS. NOT ONLY HAVE THEY REPAIRED CARS FOR US WHEN A CERTAIN DEALERSHIP, SUCH AS VOLKSWAGEN, WAS NECESSARY, BUT THEY ALSO HAVE ASSISTED OUR MOTHERS WITH WISE PURCHASES AND PLAN TO HELP US IN THE ACQUISITION OF AFFORDABLE, BUT RELIABLE USED CARS FOR OUR INCREASED DEMAND. EVERY CAR THAT WE GIVE AWAY IS INSPECTED, DETAILED, AND THOROUGHLY CHECKED OVER BY AN AUTO MECHANIC. I REACHED OUT TO EDDIE AND HELP WAS SOON ON THE WAY HE REPLACED ALL THE BROKEN, WORN-OUT PIPES AND FAUCETS, INSULATED THE WHOLE AREA TO PREVENT FUTURE FREEZES, AND MADE SURE MY CANTANKEROUS WASHING MACHINE WAS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN. MOST IMPORTANTLY, GINNY AND EDDIE GOT ME SMILING AND LAUGHING AGAIN. AFTER THEIR VISIT, NOTHING SEEMED INSURMOUNTABLE. INSTEAD OF RUINING CHRISTMAS, MY FROZEN OLD PIPES BROUGHT GIVING WORDS TO MY HOME, SO THAT GINNY AND EDDIE COULD TRULY EMBODY THE MEANING OF THE SEASON." |
