What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Service Above Self is the mission of the Rotary Club of Marion. The club demonstrates this ethic by actively engaging members in community projects and endeavors that do good both locally and abroad. Established in 1939 club members have contributed significantly to the well being of the city and county by raising funds annually to distribute for worthy projects whose contributions to our community exceed expectations. The Rotary Club of Marion endeavors to fill gaps in funding by recognizing small projects and their impact within our community. The club is also committed to youth development and international support of water and wheel chair projects in developing countries.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 2020-2021 Rotary year accomplished a diminished number of project initiatives secondary to the global COVID-19 pandemic. President Portelli successfully engaged members via ZOOM meetings with impressive participation. The donations to the annual club auction basically covered monetary donations in lieu of an in-person event. Much was accomplished to assure that the club was able to meet its scholarship commitment to a rising senior as well as meet some local and international goals established with District 7670. The club goal consistently works to maximize fund raising opportunities and this has resulted in an impressive history of annual recognition as the Best Civic Club in McDowell County. Our engagement remained high even without in-person meetings throughout most of the Rotary year.

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16 2021-2022 Rotary Club of Marion enjoyed a robust service project associated year upon the lifting of pandemic restrictions and the resumption of in person meetings and service projects. We met our membership recruitment goals improving our bench strength to meet and exceed work requirements to achieve success. Due to supply chain issues our major fund raising initiative had to carry over to the next Rotary year.
Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 20 2021-2022 Rotary of Club of Marion returned to our face to face meetings following a year of pandemic restrictions. We were grateful to return to the City of Marion Community Building with an increased enthusiasm to resume our previous engagement with each other and our community. While confined to Zoom meetings for one year it occurred to us how woefully aged the current media platform in the Marion Community Building was and this offered President Behlke an signature initiative that included collaboration with the City Manager and staff for the Rotary Club of Marion to partner with the City of Marion to improve the state of technology available to community and City of Marion initiatives. President Behlke set an aggressive goal for the annual auction which her team exceeded enabling a 24K commitment to contribute state of the art technology improving meeting engagement and technology reach. Due to supply chain constraints this project would not accrue until later in the 2022-2023 year resulting in a significant carry over. Additionally, President Behlke was able to return 56 children to the Christmas program hosted by the Rotary Club of Marion since our early beginning as a club. President Behlke and club members recruited and sent veterans on a We Honor Veteran's flight to Washington DC with local members serving as care providers for the veterans while en route to and from Asheville and Washington D.C.. The club supported the local West Marion Community Forum in their efforts to improve equity and diversity in our community. We strong support to the Mountain Trails Association helping to sponsor their annual fund drive for the purpose of expanding the green spaces win McDowell County for trails and collaboration with contiguous counties for connectivity of existing and developing community trails initiatives.
