| FORM 990, PART III | IN 2022, WE SERVED MORE THAN 860 SURVIVORS FROM ALMOST 400 FAMILIES, AND WE HAD A WAITLIST OF MORE THAN 100 INDIVIDUALS. BY THE END OF 2022, OUR PRIMARY FOCUS WAS TO BUILD CAPACITY IN ORDER TO PROVIDE TIMELY SERVICES FOR THOSE IN NEED. WE HAVE BEEN DOING THAT THROUGH HIRING AND INCREASING SALARIES TO RETAIN THERAPISTS, WHILE PLANNING ENHANCED FUNDRAISING EFFORTS WITH IMPACTFUL EVENTS, EXPANDED GRANT WRITING, AND ROBUST COMMUNITY OUTREACH EFFORTS. IN 2022, WE CONTINUED TO SEE THE IMPACT OF COVID, AND ACCORDING TO THE 2021 HEALTHY KIDS COLORADO SURVEY, LARIMER COUNTY CHILDREN ARE BEING IMPACTED BY VIOLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES: -STUDENTS WHO FELT SO SAD OR HOPELESS THAT THEY STOPPED DOING USUAL ACTIVITIES (DEPRESSION): STATEWIDE 39.6%, LARIMER 41.5% -SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED SUICIDE: STATEWIDE 17.1%, LARIMER 20% -PURPOSEFULLY HURT THEMSELVES WITHOUT WANTING TO DIE: STATEWIDE 20.3%, LARIMER 23.8% -PLANNED HOW THEY WOULD ATTEMPT SUICIDE: STATEWIDE 13.2%, LARIMER 14.4% -ATTEMPTED SUICIDE ONE OR MORE TIMES: STATEWIDE 7.2%, LARIMER 7.4% -WERE HURT ON PURPOSE BY SOMEONE THEY WERE DATING: STATEWIDE 9.1% LARIMER 9.6% -HAD A SEXUAL EXPERIENCE WHERE THEY WERE UNSURE IF THEY CONSENTED: STATEWIDE 11.7%, LARIMER 14.6% -WERE PHYSICALLY FORCED TO HAVE SEX: STATEWIDE 5.7%, LARIMER 6.3% OUR YOUTH ARE STRUGGLING AND FAMILIES ARE STRUGGLING TOO. THE 2022 KIDS COUNT IN COLORADO REPORTS THAT ABOUT HALF OF COLORADO HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN REPORTED A LOSS OF HOUSEHOLD INCOME SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN, AND ONE-THIRD REPORTED DIFFICULTY PAYING FOR USUAL HOUSEHOLD EXPENSES, INCLUDING MEDICAL CARE OR FOOD. IN 2022, WE SAW LESS REVENUE COMING FROM FEES FOR OUR SERVICES. OUR AUDITED 2022 FINANCIALS INDICATE THAT REVENUES COLLECTED FOR FEES FOR SERVICE HAVE FALLEN FROM 26% IN 2021 TO 16% IN 2022, LEAVING US A GAP TO FILL. THESE REALITIES IN OUR COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FOCUS ON CAPACITY BUILDING. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | CATP - CHILD ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM IN 2022, CHILDSAFE TREATED 789 INDIVIDUALS IN OUR CATP OUTPATIENT TREATMENT PROGRAM. WE SERVE VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE (PRIMARILY SEXUAL ABUSE), AGES 2- 18, AND THEIR NON-OFFENDING FAMILY MEMBERS THROUGH A COMBINATION OF GROUP, INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY THERAPY TO HELP FOSTER RESILIENCE AND HEAL THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY ABUSE. AFTER A THOROUGH ASSESSMENT, OUR HIGHLY TRAINED THERAPISTS, WITH INPUT FROM OUR CLIENTS, DEVELOP TREATMENT PLANS FOR THE WORK THEY WILL DO TOGETHER. OUR TREATMENT APPROACH IS TRAUMA-INFORMED AND CAN INCLUDE PLAY, ART, SAND, AND MUSIC, AS WELL AS TF-CBT, TALK, EMDR, NEUROFEEDBACK, AND OTHER HIGHLY EFFECTIVE THERAPIES. FAMILY THERAPY IS CONDUCTED TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION AND TRUST AND HEAL ATTACHMENT WOUNDS. THROUGH GROUP THERAPY, CLIENTS LEARN THAT THEY ARE NOT ALONE IN THEIR STRUGGLES AND CAN FACE THEIR CHALLENGES AND LEARN TO THRIVE WITH THE SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT OF THEIR PEERS. IN 2022, WE TAUGHT 100 CAREGIVERS TRAUMA-INFORMED PARENTING CLASSES TO GIVE THEM THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO FACE THE CHALLENGES OF RAISING TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN AND TEENS. OUR CLINICIANS PROVIDE SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY FOR CLIENTS GOING THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM AND CONNECT FAMILIES WITH REFERRALS FOR ACCESSING HELP WITH BASIC NEEDS. WE TURNED NO ONE AWAY DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY FOR SERVICES. CHILDSAFE IS A RESPECTED MEMBER OF THE MDT (MULTI- DISCIPLINARY TEAM) IN OUR COMMUNITY, RESPONDING TO CASES OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT. OUR CLINICIANS PROVIDE VITAL TRAINING AND CONSULTATION TO AREA PROFESSIONALS REGARDING THE MYRIAD ISSUES FACING VICTIMS OF ABUSE AND HOW TO RESPOND IN AN EFFECTIVE AND TRAUMA-INFORMED MANNER. IN 2022, WE BEGAN TO USE BRAIN MAPPING TO CREATE UNDERSTANDING OF ADVERSE EXPERIENCES, RELATIONAL HEALTH, AND CURRENT CLIENT FUNCTIONING. FROM THESE DATA POINTS, WE CREATE A MAP THAT SHOWS THE CLIENT'S BRAIN FUNCTION COMPARED TO TYPICALLY-DEVELOPED PEERS. THE CLINICIAN THEN PROVIDES CONCRETE TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS TO BEST FIT CLIENTS. THIS ENSURES CLIENTS GET APPROPRIATE TREATMENT, BUT ALSO THAT OUTSIDE SYSTEMS WILL MORE LIKELY MEET THEIR NEEDS IN TRAUMA-INFORMED WAYS. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4B | AVAC - ADULTS VICTIMIZED AS CHILDREN IN 2022, WE TREATED 74 INDIVIDUALS IN THE AVAC PROGRAM, WHICH SERVES ADULTS OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED CHILDHOOD ABUSE, PRIMARILY CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE. SEXUAL ABUSE VICTIMS ARE AT RISK OF PSYCHOLOGICAL, EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL, AND PHYSICAL PROBLEMS THAT CAN LAST INTO ADULTHOOD. OUR COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR WOMEN AND MEN WHO WERE ABUSED AS CHILDREN AND TEENS. WE TREAT THE SURVIVOR, AS WELL AS THEIR SUPPORTIVE FAMILY MEMBERS. THE RIPPLE EFFECTS OF ABUSE CAN IMPACT EVERYONE IN THE SURVIVOR'S ORBIT AND CHILDSAFE OFFERS OUR FULL RANGE OF SERVICES TO HELP THESE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES HEAL AND THRIVE. IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THE CAREGIVERS OF CHILD VICTIMS TO HAVE THEIR OWN HISTORY OF CHILDHOOD ABUSE. WE ARE HERE TO HELP HEAL THOSE WOUNDS WITH COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES THROUGH A COMBINATION OF GROUP, INDIVIDUAL, AND FAMILY THERAPY. SO OFTEN, ADULT SURVIVORS LIVE FOR YEARS CARRYING A BURDENSOME SECRET, AND HAVING A SKILLED THERAPIST AND A GROUP OF OTHER SURVIVORS TO MEET WITH, CAN BE A LIFESAVER. |
