Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 ADVOCACY & DIRECT ACTIONS - Plans and executes direct actions (marches, rallies, protests) as well as researches, follows and lobbies for or against legislations and encourages calls to action and engaging elected or other local leaders around issues important to BIPOC. In December 2022, DSM BLM Collective (the CLTV) received a grant for the purpose of educating and advocating to end juvenile fines and fees in Iowa. Additionally, the CLTV received additional subgrants to continue their work with the State Green New Deal Network, collaborating with the Buffalo Rebellion on CO2 pipeline Teach-ins, protests, and future plans. The work for the CLTV's previously awarded Get Out the Vote Grant wrapped up with a Sunday Night "Make a Plan to Vote Dinner" prior to the November 8, 2022 general election, as well as the printing and distribution of 625 Black Iowa Voter Guides. Other non-grant related actions included a protest in solidarity against the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, commonly known as "Cop City", a call to action to contact the City of Des Moines to provide 24-hour warming centers for unhoused residents during a brutal Iowa winter cold snap, the annual Juneteenth celebration where education regarding school resource officers was presented, as well as the annual collaborative Fourth of He Lies Community Potluck. 29 MUTUAL AID - Provides programs geared toward improving upon the life experiences of black residents in the Central Iowa community. During the fiscal year, DSM BLM Collective participated in the Johnston Parents for Equity & Anti-Racism's "J-Rock the Block Celebration" Back to School supply drive. Board members and volunteers also spent many hours rehoming the book collection and removing unwanted items from the residential real estate that was donated to DSM BLM Collective in December 2021. The vision for the property, located in the Des Moines' River Bend neighborhood, a historically Black and Brown neighborhood with some of the greatest levels of poverty in Des Moines, by (1) opening the main floor for use by community members and organizations for gatherings and meetings, (2) opening the kitchen to prepare meals for those in need and to supply local community fridges, (3) provide below market-level rent of the three upstairs bedrooms to help cover the property's operating costs, and (4) provide a community garden and gathering space in the spacious backyard. While the hope was to have this property placed in service during this fiscal year, the reality is there is still a lot of work to be done to restore the incredible home and site to a usable state.
