What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE DECALOGUE SOCIETY OF LAWYERS, FOUNDED IN 1934, IS THE NATION'S OLDEST JEWISH BAR ASSOCIATION. ITS MISSION IS TO ADVANCE LAWYERS' PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, RAISE THE STANDARDS OF THE BAR AND BENCH, EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON LEGAL AND JEWISH ISSUES, AND MAINTAIN VIGILANCE AGAINST DISCRIMINATORY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PRACTICES, PARTICULARLY ANTI-SEMITISM. ALSO, SUPPORTING JEWISH INTERESTS THROUGH BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ATTORNEYS AND PROFESSIONALS IN OTHER ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS AND THE JEWISH COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

Explanation:
We understand that being a tax exempt organization is an important privilege that requires timely disclosures to both the IRS and the public. To that end, we take filing deadlines seriously and have always filed on time in the past. Nevertheless we do sincerely apologize for this late filing and will take rigorous steps to avoid late filing in the future. A number of extraordinary circumstances beyond our control coalesced after our fiscal year and made it very difficult to file on time. These circumstances included the ongoing coronavirus pandemic during our fiscal year, which disrupted some of our normal accounting and recordkeeping processes. Additionally our long-time accountant and tax return preparer retired during the fiscal year and was unable to assist us with tax return preparation. In order to ensure timely filing going forward, we have sought out a new nonprofit accountant that will assist us with our bookkeeping and tax filings. Our Executive Director, Treasurer, and Accountant will all plan to meet far in advance of tax filing deadlines to make sure we address any issues that could slow down our filing. We've also added a review of all compliance deadlines to the final Board Meeting of the year. We believe these important steps will help make sure we can file in a timely manner going forward. Please feel free to reach out if you require documentation of any of our reasons for late filing or steps taken to avoid late filing in the future.
