| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 | PROGRAMMING FOR WOMEN DURING INCARCERATION AND RE-ENTRY - CRUCIAL TO AN INCARCERATED PERSON'S SUCCESSFUL RE-ENTRY IS COMMUNITY INVESTMENT. TRUE TO OUR MISSION TO UNITE DIVERSE PEOPLE FOR SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE, PROGRAMMING IS CONDUCTED BY VOLUNTEERS: PROFESSIONAL WOMEN WITH BACKGROUNDS IN SOUL CARE, CHAPLAINCY, SOCIAL WORK, COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY, OR THERAPY ARE RECRUITED AND TRAINED AS MENTORS PROVIDING INDIVIDUAL SOUL CARE (SPIRITUAL DIRECTION) IN PRISON AND DURING RE-ENTRY. SOUL CARE MENTORING PROVIDES INCARCERATED WOMEN WITH SUPPORT AND TOOLS FOR DEALING WITH PAST TRAUMA, FORGIVENESS, AND LIFE MEANING. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MENTEES, BOTH INSIDE PRISON AND AFTER INCARCERATION, TO SHARE THEIR GIFTS WITH OTHERS, E.G. SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS, PRAYER SUPPORT, AND PREPARATION OF BACKPACK MATERIALS. RE-ENTRY MENTORING PROVIDES MATERIAL, PRACTICAL, NETWORKING, AND SOUL CARE SUPPORT. THE SPEAKERS' BUREAU INVOLVES COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS ON RESTORATIVE JUSTICE, INCARCERATION, AND RE-ENTRY. WOMEN IN RE-ENTRY PARTICIPATE IN THE SPEAKER'S BUREAU. THIS WAS A CHALLENGING YEAR DUE TO THE PANDEMIC. THE PRISON WAS CLOSED TO IN-PERSON VOLUNTEERING FROM MARCH 2020 UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2022. FOR THE WOMEN WE SERVED AT THE FACILITY, WE SHIFTED FROM AN IN-PERSON MODEL TO MENTORING VIA MAIL. THE VOLUNTEER MENTORS DREW ON THEIR IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR INDIVIDUAL MENTEES TO CRAFT MENTORING EXERCISES. GIVEN THE ABSENCE OF PROGRAMMING FOR WOMEN IN THE FACILITY, THIS CONTINUED SUPPORT WAS DEEPLY APPRECIATED BY THE WOMEN, AND IT SHOWED BENEFITS IN THEIR ABILITY TO DEAL WITH THE STRESSES OF MORE RESTRICTIVE CONFINEMENT. RE-ENTRY NEEDS WERE GREATER DUE TO MORE WOMEN BEING RELEASED BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC AND WERE COMPLICATED BY PANDEMIC SHUTDOWNS. TWO-HUNDRED AND FORTY-TWO (242) PEOPLE WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR, AND VOLUNTEERS DONATED 2073 HOURS. THE VALUE OF A VOLUNTEER HOUR IN THIS LOCALITY IN 2021 WAS 31.51, BRINGING THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF OUR VOLUNTEERS TO 65,320. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 | FORMATION PROGRAM IN SOUL CARE - SPIRITUAL HEALTH IS A KEY CONTRIBUTOR TO MENTAL HEALTH. THE FORMATION PROGRAM PROVIDES 15-MONTHS OF TRAINING WITH INTERNSHIP AND SUPERVISION. STUDENTS PROVIDE SUPPORT AND PRESENCE TO PEOPLE LIVING IN POVERTY OR WHO ARE MARGINALIZED IN OTHER WAYS. OTHER SPIRITUAL DIRECTION SERVICES INCLUDE INDIVIDUAL SPIRITUAL DIRECTION WITH SPECIAL FOCUS ON PEOPLE EXPERIENCING LOSS OR TRAUMA, REFERRALS, PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION FOR OTHERS INVOLVED IN SOUL CARE WORK, CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR SOUL CARE PROFESSIONALS, AND PARTNERS PROGRAMS AT THE WOMEN'S PRISON IN DENVER. THE PANDEMIC CHALLENGED US TO RESTRUCTURE OUR IN-PERSON TRAINING INTENSIVES. THE CREATIVE MOVE TO PROVIDING BOTH EDUCATION AND SUPERVISION ONLINE TURNED OUT TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL. FORTY-SIX (46) PEOPLE WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR, AND 3 FACULTY MEMBERS DONATED 660 PROFESSIONAL STAFF HOURS, FOREGOING THEIR STIPENDS TOTALING 14,400 FOR THE YEAR. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 30 | ELDER WISDOM - ELDERS ARE SIGNIFICANT TO THE HEALTH OF ANY COMMUNITY. PEOPLE DURING RETIREMENT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SOURCE OF PROVIDING VOLUNTEER SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY. ELDER WISDOM EQUIPS SENIORS (55+) FOR TRANSFORMATIVE PRESENCE AND MEANINGFUL SERVICE IN THE COMMUNITY. OTHER SERVICES INCLUDE SPIRITUAL/LEADERSHIP OFFERINGS (RETREATS AND TRAININGS) FOR A VARIETY OF FORUMS INCLUDING CHURCHES, NONPROFITS, AND SOCIAL SERVICES GROUPS. UNTIL THE PANDEMIC, ALL PROGRAMS HAD BEEN DELIVERED AS IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS. AS WITH ANOTHER PROGRAM, THE CREATIVE MOVE TO PROVIDING ALL WORKSHOP ONLINE TURNED OUT TO BE VERY SUCCESSFUL AND ALLOWED FOR PARTICIPATION BY PEOPLE ALL OVER THE US AND ABROAD. ONE-HUNDRED AND NINETEEN (119) PEOPLE WERE SERVED DURING THE YEAR, AND VOLUNTEERS DONATED 128 HOURS. THE VALUE OF A VOLUNTEER HOUR IN THIS LOCALITY IN 2021 WAS 31.51, BRINGING THE FINANCIAL IMPACT OF OUR VOLUNTEERS TO 4,033. |
