American Action Network conducted extensive issue advocacy and grassroots mobilization, including television advertising, direct mail, automated phone calls, digital advocacy, public opinion surveys, and providing grants to allied organizations, in a nationwide effort primarily advocating against the various iterations of Build Back Better. We vociferously opposed the myriad of reckless tax hikes, the inflation-exacerbating wasteful spending, and its impact on various sectors of the economy and on taxpayers directly. Additionally, we weighed in on other key policies and legislation from a center-right standpoint related to energy, health, fiscal, budgetary, tax, regulatory, and constitutional issues.

Monitoring procedures (Part I, line 2) The Network maintains records that substantiate the amounts and recipients of all grants. For grants designated as issue support the Network generally reviews grant proposals or other information about grantees to make sure the activity funded is in furtherance of the Networks social welfare purposes, requires the grant funds to be used for social welfare purposes and not to be used for political campaign activity and obtains grantee reports to confirm appropriate use of all grant funds.

Officer directors etc family relationship Part VI line 2 Two of the Networks directors, Barry Jackson and Jeff Larson, are also both directors of Majority Strategies, a for-profit corporation.
Committee meeting documentation Part VI line 8b The audit and compensation committees keep contemporaneous minutes, but the executive committee does not. The executive committee serves primarily to advise management, and thus does not typically exercise board powers to pass resolutions with binding effect.
Form 990 governing body review Part VI line 11 The Fom 990 is reviewed by the President of the organization and Director of Operations, in consultation with accounting and legal professionals as appropriate. Explanation of information on Schedule R Part V Line 2 - AAN made grants to, and shared some staff, facilities, equipment and other assets and outside service providers with the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a related organization. During the tax year the shared staff were concurrent common law employees of the Network and CLF but paid directly by the Network; time spent working for each organization was tracked. Some of the shared costs were simply covered by AAN and others were subject to reimbursement by CLF. AAN and CLF had separate relationships with other common vendors, but amounts spent on those vendors by AAN have not been reported here unless AAN paid amounts subject to reimbursement by CLF or AAN paid more than AAN owed to a vendor for that vendors services to AAN in order to cover the amount owed by CLF.
