What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Promote the vitality and economic diversity of a working waterfront through advocacy for maritime and marine trades, publishing two newsletters regularly, hosting events and networking meetings, and attending city and port commissioner meetings to bring issues and support policies that promote living-wage, skilled labor jobs for our region.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Advocated for new marine trades development along the waterfront, resulting in land being zoned for trades use only, as well as a resulting 10-percent lease discount for qualifying maritime trades industries. Created an information and networking hub, with related events to facilitate maritime trades and trades skill jobs on the waterfront connecting with potential and interested employees and citizens of the region. Partnered with multiple organizations to promote sustainable industry changes to move climate action forward. 1. Searched through IRS.gov multiple times to determine EMAIL ADDRESS to send completed form and could not find one 2. Attempted to sign up for IRS.gov account - MFA Failed to Send to Email - sign up NOT POSSIBLE. Tried multiple times. 3. Once signed up, 990 was not possible to file for 4. Attempted to find another, 3rd-party, private company to file. These also asked for MFA, which failed. 5. After several attempts, sent PHYSICAL LETTER RETURN AND CHECK.....ALSO SENT LETTER DETAILING TROUBLE. 6. Pysical filing was returned to us, unaccepted. The letter that came with it DID NOT acknowledge any of these reasons, stating I should use an online method, which the troubles of were clearly detailed in my letter attached with the return. FIND AN AGENT WHO CAN READ. 7. After this was returned, and after MULTIPLE PRIVATE AGENCIES REFUSED TO FILE in my home town, directing me to online services which were not working - 8. I finally found this one - which allows me to file for for free, and did not need MFA to a cell phone. In short - we will not pay a penalty based on the US government REQUIRING THAT I PAY FOR A PRIVATE SERVICE to complete a PUBLIC DUTY. If you cannot file online at IRS.gov with an account (I did try, but was only able to select 'Individual' as an account style, which did not grant me access to 990 forms), than I would expect that I can get the cost of the service I am forced to use subtracted from the tax we owe. The US Government cannot force customers to private companies for public duties. Finally - as this particular website was free, I would require that the IRS list this website first, with explicit descriptions. Also, make the website IRS.gov more navigable. Following links for "990-EZ" took me through instructions that sent me on a navigation-circle around the website for an hour or so before I finally happened to click a link that got me to external services to file. (Which didn't actually allow me to file.) This was singularly the most frustrating attempt to properly file a return I've ever experienced. You have got to make this more intuitive, easy, free - and hosted ON IRS.gov. Not a 3rd-party site. There are way too many scams out there to be entirely comfortable trusting a 3rd party site.
