Charity Hardship Fund: AF operates a program called Charity Hardship Fund, which provides support to its constituency churches. Loans are provided to help churches manage large financial needs within their own church alms and medical funds. Loans are short-term (generally not more than 2 year terms) and are extended either interest-free or at low interest. As loans are repaid, the funds recycle into new support loans for other churches. As of its current year-end, AF had 20 outstanding hardship loans totaling $2,701,862.

Return Reference Explanation
Endowment funds intended uses (Part V, line 4) The purpose of Anabaptist Foundations endowment fund program is to provide operational support to designated exempt organizations. At year-end, there were 12 different endowment funds. Beneficiaries include Christian schools and other Christian based exempt organizations.
Other revenues not included on Form 990 (Part XI, line 2d) A total of $69,039 is listed and this amount is composed of $2,917 of change in value of split-interest agreements and imputed interest income on hardship loans of $66,122.
Other revenues included on Form 990 (Part XI, line 4b) This amount represents rental expenses that were included on Part VIII, line 6b.
Other expenses not included on Form 990 (Part XII, line 2d) A total of $271,574 is listed and this amount is composed of $205,452 of rental expenses that were listed on Part VIII, line 6b and also includes $66,122 of imputed interest expense that was not included in Part IX.
Footnote for uncertain tax position under FIN 48 (Part X) a liability for any tax position taken that is beneficial to AF, including any related interest and penalties, when it is more likely than not the position taken by management with respect to a transaction or class of transactions will be overturned by a taxing authority upon examination. Penalties and interest related to underpayment of income taxes are not recorded as income taxes but as penalties and interest expense. Management believes there are no such positions for either the current year or prior years, and accordingly, no liability has been accrued.

Monitoring procedures (Part I, line 2) When a disbursement request is considered, management confirms the eligibility status of the recipient organization by either confirming it is a church, or by receiving from the prospective recipient organization a copy of their IRS determination letter, or by verifing the current tax-exempt status of the recipient organization on the IRS website. Receipient organizations are required to provide, on request, copies of their audited financial statements. Also, management reviews public relations materials and websites of recipient organizations stated purposes. Churches are exempt from the requirement to provide, on request, audited financial statements.
