Briefly describe the organization’s mission: The ALA Dept of CO mission is to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who served by enhancing the lives of our veterans military and their families both at home and abroad. For God and Country we advocate for veterans educate our citizens mentor youth and promote patriotism Americanism good citizenship peace and National security.

The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program is one of the most respected experiential learning programs in the U.S. Guided by the principle "For God and Country" the program epitomizes the ALA mission to honor those who have brought us our freedom by continuing to train young women to be leaders grounded in patriotism and Americanism. The program objectives are to develop understanding of the American government freedoms and traditions to inspire young women of all backgrounds and interests to engage with our system of government stimulates passion for the democratic process within our republic and the brave individuals who fight for our freedom. The program fosters confidence growth and long friendships. The cost of the ALA Girls State program are underwritten by each state lever American Legion Auxiliary Department of Colorado. It is a week long program hosted by a local college university in the state of CO.

The American Legion Auxiliary supports the Veterans Health Care System of Colorado and the VA Community Living Centers throughout the state. The VA medical centers provide quality healthcare to veterans in our community and surrounding areas. From surgery to diagnostics primary care to rehabilitation our veterans depend on these facilities. Many are are limited income and some are homeless. The benefits include caregivers recreational therapy assist homeless veterans LGBT veteran care returning service members. The ALA supports through monetary and in kind donations as well as volunteer hours by serving at the front desk or a Red Coat Ambassador. In addition the ALA supports the Fisher House Foundation. The Fisher House is a home located in Aurora CO. The FH recognizes the sacrifices of our men and women in the service. They support veterans and their families while a loved one is receiving medical care at the VA hospital or an approved facility. Their goal is to meet humanitarian need beyond that provided by the VA. They offer a place to stay for free in lieu of a costly hotel they offer comfort and support for our military families during a medical crisis.

Members helping members - that's the American Legion Auxiliary's mission of Service Not Self in action. Hard times can fall upon us at any moment. That's when the American Legion Auxiliary is committed to help. AEF is a national grant assistance program that provides financial assistance to eligible members of the American Legion Auxiliary who have endured a significant financial setback as the result of an act of nature or other personal crisis. The applicant must have received damage to their primary residence or have been displaced or evacuated from their residence and had our of pocket expenses for food clothing and shelter. Grants may be awarded up to $3,000.

Part VI, Line 6 This organization is a 501 C 19 and is a membership driven volunteer organization whose mission is to support the American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans military and their families both at home and abroad.
Part VI, Line 7a We elect officers once at year at our Department Convention. The membership elects the officers President President Elect Vice President Chaplain Historian Sergeant at Arms. The President appoints the Parliamentarian and the Secretary Treasurer who is confirmed by the membership at the department convention.
Part VI, Line 7b The Department Executive Board approves any changes recommended by the Constitution and ByLaws committee and then must bring it to the general membership at the end of the year conference where it is approved or denied. They also approve any changes to the budget that is brought to them by the Finance Committee.

Part VI, Line 6 | Explanation:| American Legion Auxiliary is a volunteer member driven organization. We currently have 4,466 members and 79 different posts throughout the state of Colorado. Each member must qualify to be a member by being a direct descendant or through a spouse. Each member must also pay annual dues to stay in good standing and be able to vote at the annual convention.
Part VI, Line 7 | Explanation:| The President who is elected at the Annual Convention has the power to appoint the Parliamentarian and the Secretary.

Part VI, Line 12 | Explanation:| 12C - The ALA monitors compliance by having a Constitution and Bylaws chair and a Parliamentarian who reviews each unit to make sure they are in compliance as well as assist each unit with problems.
Part VII, Line 1 | Explanation:| Theresa Rose Lena is the only employee of the American Legion Auxiliary. All the officers are volunteers whom are elected or appointed by the President.
Part VI, Line 7 | Explanation:| Line 7B At the Annual Department Convention the members elect next years officers and vote on various topics such as changes in the bylaws and approving next years budget.
Part VIII, Line 2 | Explanation:| On 2C the National Veteran Creative Arts Festival is an annual festival occurring nationally. Colorado was chosen to host this event in May 2024. The ALA has been saving funds for the last 3 years to provide for the hospitality event. The cost of this is estimated to be about $60,000. This is why you only see income and not expenses with NVCAF. Next year you will see the expense.
Part XI, Line 1 | Explanation:| The American Legion Auxiliary has an Audit Committee who reviews the books every quarter. The chair of the Audit committee is a certified CPA and signs off on all deposits and expenses reviews all reports and financial statements.
