Explanation:

I was told that first returns had to be mailed in. I filed for an extension and my 2021 return was received on October 11, 2022. I wasn't told that was no longer the case after July 2021 :-( I received notification of my error on January 31,2023 and am filing on February 3, 2023. I hope that any penalties will be waived.
