The organization received their tax-exempt status letter in May 2022. The organization was new and a first-time filer and was not sure which form to complete. The organization acted in a responsible manner and contacted the IRS several times to better understand the filing requirements. After calls with the IRS and further review of the IRS publications the organization determined that the classification of the organization should be a public charity because all donations are from the general public. The organization filed with the IRS a change in tax-exempt classification from private foundation to public charity on 8 11 2023 and efiled Form 990 tax returns which were rejected. The IRS said to e-file Form 990 PF until the classification change is accepted and that only the payment was accepted. Going forward the organization will file its returns timely.
