28 YOUR PERSONAL ODYSSEY WRITING WORKSHOP: THREE DIFFERENT SESSIONS WERE HELD, JUNE 6-JULY 15, 2022 (6 WEEKS), AUGUST 8-OCTOBER 28, 2022 (12 WEEKS), AND NOVEMBER 14, 2022-APRIL 28, 2023 (24 WEEKS). TO MAKE OUR WORKSHOP MORE ACCESSIBLE AND MORE EFFECTIVE, WE MADE SOME KEY CHANGES TO ITS FORMAT THIS YEAR, REFLECTED IN THE NAME CHANGE. THREE YEARS OF HOLDING THE SIX-WEEK ODYSSEY WRITING WORKSHOP ONLINE DUE TO COVID-19 REVEALED THE HUGE NUMBER OF TALENTED, COMMITTED WRITERS UNABLE TO ATTEND A SIX-WEEK, IN-PERSON WORKSHOP, DUE TO FAMILY, WORK, FINANCES, OR OTHER DIFFICULTIES. ANOTHER LESSON LEARNED OVER ODYSSEY'S 26 YEARS IS THAT A SIX-WEEK PROGRAM IS NOT THE BEST FORMAT FOR ALL WRITERS; MANY WRITERS CAN'T GET SIX WEEKS OFF FROM WORK, AND MANY NEED MORE TIME TO PROCESS CONTENT AND TO WRITE. IN ADDITION, THE NEEDS AND GOALS OF EACH WRITER ARE UNIQUE, AND THEY ARE NOT WELL SERVED BY A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL PROGRAM. SO IN 2022, WE TRANSFORMED THE ODYSSEY WRITING WORKSHOP INTO YOUR PERSONAL ODYSSEY WRITING WORKSHOP, A BREAKTHROUGH, ONE-ON-ONE ONLINE PROGRAM FOR WRITERS OF FANTASY, SCIENCE FICTION, AND HORROR. TO STUDY A PARTICULAR TOPIC, A STUDENT WATCHES THE LECTURE RECORDINGS, INCLUDING GUEST LECTURES; DOES READINGS, JOURNAL ENTRIES, AND CRITIQUES; WORKS WITH THE ODYSSEY DIRECTOR TO CREATE AND COMPLETE AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT; AND WRITES A STORY OR NOVEL EXCERPT. PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL FEEDBACK BY THE ODYSSEY DIRECTOR OR A GUEST CRITIQUER IS PROVIDED, AND STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO QUESTION THE CRITIQUER OF EACH SUBMISSION TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE EXPERIENCE. THE ODYSSEY DIRECTOR INTERACTS WITH THE STUDENT IN A DEEP MENTORING EXPERIENCE MADE UP OF OVER 30 HOURS ON ZOOM. STUDENTS HAVE MADE INCREDIBLE PROGRESS. THE SEVEN STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE PROGRAM THUS FAR ALL RATED IT "EXCELLENT" IN COURSE EVALUATIONS. TWO GRADUATES HAVE SOLD THEIR FIRST NOVELS TO MAJOR PUBLISHERS.
