| FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION | THE UTAH TIBETAN ASSOCIATION (UTA) SERVES AS A RESOURCE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED TO LEARN ABOUT TIBET, TIBETANS, LANGUAGE, RELIGION AND OTHER ASPECTS OF THE TIBETAN CULTURE. OUR OBJECTIVE AND MISSION IS TO PRESERVE OUR CULTURE, ARTS, LANGUAGE, AND PROVIDE GUIDANCE TO THE YOUNG GENERATION OF UTAH TIBETANS. WE ARE ALSO COMMITTED TO DIVERSIFYING OUR ORGANIZATION BY INTERACTING WITH OTHER CULTURE AND COMMUNITIES. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | THROUGHOUT 2022, THE UTAH TIBETAN ASSOCIATION CELEBRATED VARIOUS EVENTS WITH ENTHUSIASM AND UNITY, MARKING A REMARKABLE YEAR FOR THE COMMUNITY POST-COVID. THE YEAR COMMENCED WITH THE VIBRANT LOSAR 2022 CELEBRATION, HONORING THE YEAR OF THE WATER TIGER. IN THE MORNING, COLORFUL PRAYER FLAGS ADORNED THE COMMUNITY CENTER WHILE PRAYERS WERE OFFERED. LATER IN THE EVENING, AN EXCITING PROGRAM FEATURING DINNER, ENTERTAINMENT, AND DANCE BROUGHT EVERYONE TOGETHER FOR A JOYOUS OCCASION. THIS EVENT SERVED AS A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE, BEING THE FIRST MAJOR GATHERING POST-PANDEMIC, AND ALLOWED THE COMMUNITY TO REVEL IN THE TIBETAN NEW YEAR FESTIVITIES. THE DAY WAS FILLED WITH GAMES, MUSIC, CAPTIVATING TIBETAN DANCE PERFORMANCES BY CHILDREN, AND HEARTFELT APPRECIATION CERTIFICATES AWARDED TO PAST TIBETAN SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS. IN MARCH, THE COMMUNITY GATHERED ON THE 10TH TO COMMEMORATE THE 62ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1959 TIBETAN UPRISING. DESPITE IT BEING A WEEKDAY, THE EVENT WITNESSED A STRONG TURNOUT, WITH THE COMMUNITY ASSEMBLING IN FRONT OF THE FEDERAL BUILDING AND MARCHING THROUGH DOWNTOWN TO THE STATE CAPITOL, SHOWING THEIR UNWAVERING UNITY AND SOLIDARITY. CONTINUING THEIR EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT TIBET, THE UTAH TIBETAN ASSOCIATION COLLABORATED WITH A LOCAL UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR IN MARCH TO HOST A DOCUMENTARY SCREENING AT A MULTIPLEX THEATER. PRIOR TO THE SCREENING, THE UTAH TIBETAN COMMUNITY SHOWCASED THEIR CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH PERFORMANCES, AND GUEST SPEAKERS ENGAGED THE AUDIENCE IN MEANINGFUL DISCUSSIONS. ON MAY 1ST, THE SUNDAY SCHOOL REOPENED ITS DOORS AFTER A TWO-YEAR CLOSURE DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC. WITH THE HELP OF FOUR DEDICATED VOLUNTEER TEACHERS AND THE SUPPORT OF THE UTAH TIBETAN LEADERSHIP, THE REOPENING WAS METICULOUSLY PLANNED WITH ACADEMIC YEAR PREPARATIONS, STUDENT REGISTRATION, PARENT MEETINGS, AND VOLUNTEER CLEANING SCHEDULES. THE SUNDAY SCHOOL CURRICULUM FOCUSED ON TEACHING TIBETAN LANGUAGE, SCRIPT, AND PERFORMING ARTS, ENSURING THE PASSING DOWN OF TRADITIONS TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION. IN MAY, THE UTAH TIBETAN ASSOCIATION ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN THE ANNUAL UTAH LIVING TRADITION FESTIVAL, A CELEBRATION OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN THE STATE. ENGAGING IN THE FESTIVAL FOR OVER TWO DECADES, THE COMMUNITY SHOWCASED THEIR DEDICATION AND PASSION BY PRACTICING TRADITIONAL DANCE PERFORMANCES MONTHS IN ADVANCE AND VOLUNTEERS SPENT SEVERAL DAYS PREPARING DELICIOUS FOOD FOR THE EVENT. JULY 6TH MARKED A SIGNIFICANT DAY FOR THE COMMUNITY, AS THEY JOYOUSLY CELEBRATED THE 87TH BIRTHDAY OF HIS HOLINESS THE 14TH DALAI LAMA. MORNING PRAYERS WERE OFFERED AT A LOCAL PARK, FOLLOWED BY AN EVENING PROGRAM AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, FILLED WITH PERFORMANCES FROM TALENTED INDIVIDUALS AND SUNDAY SCHOOL CHILDREN. THE FESTIVITIES INCLUDED A DELIGHTFUL DINNER AND TRADITIONAL TIBETAN CIRCLE DANCE, AS WELL AS THE ELECTION OF FOUR NEW EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS TO THE LEADERSHIP TEAM. IN AUGUST, THE TIBETAN DEMOCRACY DAY ON THE 31ST WAS A MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE AND APPRECIATE THE EFFORTS OF OUTGOING FOUR EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS. DURING THIS TIME, THE COMMUNITY ALSO HOSTED A FRIENDLY BASKETBALL AND SOCCER MATCH WITH A SPORTS TEAM FROM THE COLORADO TIBETAN ASSOCIATION, WHO WERE WARMLY WELCOMED AS GUESTS OF HONOR. IN SEPTEMBER, A SUMMER CAMP WAS ORGANIZED FOR THE SUNDAY SCHOOL KIDS, LASTING TWO DAYS AND PACKED WITH ENGAGING WORKSHOPS ON MOMO MAKING, HISTORY DISCUSSIONS, TIBETAN GAMES, QUIZ GAMES, AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PRESENTATIONS AND PERFORMANCES. THE CHILDREN SPENT THE NIGHTS CAMPING AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, WHILE PARENTS AND EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN PREPARING MEALS. THE CAMP RECEIVED POSITIVE FEEDBACK, HIGHLIGHTING ITS SUCCESS. ON SEPTEMBER 19TH, A VALUABLE WORKSHOP WAS HELD AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER, AIMED AT EQUIPPING HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE-BOUND KIDS OVER 15 YEARS OLD WITH ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP, PUBLIC SPEAKING, AND CAREER PREPARATION SKILLS. SPANNING OVER TWO MONTHS DURING THE WEEKENDS, THE WORKSHOP WAS A TESTAMENT TO THE COMMUNITY'S COMMITMENT TO EMPOWERING THE YOUNGER GENERATION. AS THE YEAR PROGRESSED, THE COMMUNITY'S COMMITMENT TO UNITY AND PROGRESS REMAINED STEADFAST. ON OCTOBER 16TH, THEY ORGANIZED A LARGE COMMUNITY CENTER FALL CLEANUP, SURPASSING EXPECTATIONS IN TERMS OF MEMBER TURNOUT AND ENSURING THEIR CENTER WAS READY FOR THE IMPENDING WINTER SEASON. CLOSING THE YEAR ON A HIGH NOTE, THE UTAH TIBETAN ASSOCIATION PURCHASED A 40' STORAGE CONTAINER IN DECEMBER, CREATING ADDITIONAL CLASSROOM SPACE FOR THE SUNDAY SCHOOL. THE LEADERSHIP TEAM DEDICATED SEVERAL WEEKENDS TO CONSTRUCT THE BASE SUPPORT AND POSITIONING THE CONTAINER IN ITS FINAL LOCATION.
