Since its founding in 1995, the Foundation has granted more than $367 million to over 2,000 organizations and initiatives, including $64 million in facilitated grantmaking from donor-advised funds. The Foundation also supports 75 nonprofit organizations in creating and growing endowments to sustain their vital work into the future, currently stewarding $62 million in endowed assets.

4a (Code:   ) (Expenses $ 28,259,300 including grants of $ 25,921,127 ) (Revenue $ 655,247 )
Donor Development: Donors and aligned funders contributed $12.3 million to their funds at the Foundation. Philanthropy is most powerful when it is rooted in a donor's values and connects generosity to community needs. Rose Community Foundation is committed to supporting our donors and fundholders in meaningful, purposeful philanthropic giving. Fund Distributions: Donors' recommended grants totaled $7.2 million to a broad range of community interests. The Foundation's philanthropy advisors help donors articulate values, narrow their philanthropic focus and identify goals and the impact they want to make through giving, as well as facilitate giving circles. Endowment Services: The Foundation received $13.9 million in contributions for new and existing permanent endowment and designated funds for local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation paid out $1.9 million to local nonprofit organizations who have established permanent endowments and designated funds at the Foundation. Our Endowment Building Pathways are designed to give nonprofit staff and board members the training and support to integrate endowment building and legacy giving into their development work and incentives to help launch or grow an endowment fund.
4b (Code:   ) (Expenses $   including grants of $   ) (Revenue $   )
Grantmaking: The Foundation contributed $9.8 million in discretionary grantmaking directed by Rose Community Foundation staff, committees and trustees. Grantmaking cycles included a focus on supporting Jewish life in the region, advancing equitable economic opportunity, supporting social-emotional learning in schools, investing in the policy and advocacy ecosystem that advances inclusive, engaged and equitable Greater Denver communities, and more.
4c (Code:   ) (Expenses $   including grants of $   ) (Revenue $   )
Initiatives: Rose Community Foundation partnered with the state of Colorado to fundraise for and make grants from the Colorado Afghan Evacuee Support Fund, which worked to ensure that Colorado is prepared to welcome Afghan evacuees and connect them with community resources. Grantmaking from that fund deployed $1.1 million to local resettlement agencies and nonprofits. Additionally, the Foundation was selected by the State of Colorado in 2022 to house the Refugee Integration Fund, which will distribute federal dollars to local nonprofits serving eligible refugee populations. At the end of the year, the Foundation launched the Newcomers Fund to support local nonprofits assisting the Central and South American migrants arriving in Denver. Additionally, the Foundation is the fiscal sponsor for the Colorado Media Project, which deployed grantmaking in support of local journalism.

Return Reference Explanation
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The Form 990, including all required schedules, is provided to the Board of Trustees (all of which are voting members) prior to being filed with the IRS. The Foundation asks the members to submit any questions or comments regarding the form 990 within a specified time period prior to the date the return is to be filed. The Foundation's Form 990 is prepared by an independent CPA firm, and the Foundation conducts a thorough review of the return prior to being filed with the IRS. The CFO and staff perform a detail review of all amounts and disclosures in the return and then present an overview of the return to the President & CEO and the Audit Committee. The return will be amended if any changes are deemed necessary as a result of this process.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c A detailed, written description of each conflict of interest and the procedures followed to clear the conflict are provided annually to the Board of Directors for review.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15a On an annual basis, Chair of the Board of Trustees presents his/her assessment of the President & CEO's performance as compared to the goals and objectives that were established at the beginning of the year. Based on the conclusions of this assessment, along with comparative salary information on both a local and national level from both formal and informal surveys, the Board Chair recommends a salary level to be taken to the Board of Trustees for approval. This practice was updated in 2019. Other employees are budgeted at a board approved percentage along with other salaries and then determined by the CEO by evaluating both market and performance as compared to the goals and objectives that were established at the beginning of the year.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Foundation's Conflict of Interest Policy, 990, and financial statements are available upon request as well as posted on the Foundation's website at www.rcfdenver.org.
