What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS INTERNATIONAL REGION IS TO PROVIDE A COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP PLATFORM TO EMPOWER MEMBERS AND ENCOURAGE GLOBAL SUCCESS THROUGH BEST PRACTICE, INNOVATIVE THINKING AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE.

28 AIA INTERNATIONAL IS THE BROADEST GEOGRAPHICAL COMPONENT OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS, PROVIDING A COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP PLATFORM TO EMPOWER MEMBERS AND ENCOURAGE GLOBAL SUCCESS THROUGH BEST PRACTICE, INNOVATIVE THINKING, AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE. AIA INTERNATIONAL EXISTS TO DIRECTLY SUPPORT MORE THAN 2,700 AIA MEMBERS AND AFFILIATED ASSOCIATE MEMBERS LIVING AND WORKING IN MORE THAN 100 COUNTRIES OUTSIDE OF THE USA, AND TO DEVELOP A GLOBALLY SUPPORTIVE NETWORK FOR THE 96,000+ MEMBER STRONG INSTITUTE.IN 2022, THE AIA INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS HELD MONTHLY MEETINGS AS REQUIRED BY ITS BYLAWS TO ENSURE PROPER GOVERNANCE OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE BOARD HELD ITS ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS AS A HYBRID IN-PERSON/VIRTUAL EVENT ON 24 JUNE, ENCOMPASSING ACCOMPLISHMENTS, PROJECTED FUTURE GOALS, THE FINANCIAL STATE OF THE ORGANIZATION, NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES TO THE BYLAWS AND RATIFICATION OF THE BOARD OFFICERS FOR 2023-2024.AS A LEARNING FROM THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, OUR SECOND VIRTUAL SPRING CONFERENCE ON THE THEME OF 'NEW BEGINNINGS: EMBRACING CHANGE' WAS HELD ON MAY 19-21. THIS WELL-ATTENDED EVENT PROVIDED EXTENSIVE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AT 24 HOURS OF CONTENT AND SHOWCASED BEST PRACTICES AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP FROM AROUND THE WORLD. SEPARATELY, AIA INTERNATIONAL DELIVERED OR SUPPORTED OVER 70 VIRTUAL EVENTS DURING THE YEAR AND CONTINUED TO BUILD A CENTRALIZED REPOSITORY FOR ONLINE EVENTS, MANY OF WHICH INCLUDED CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION LEARNING UNITS AVAILABLE ON AN ON-DEMAND BASIS.AIA INTERNATIONAL PARTNERED WITH THE AIA UNITED KINGDOM AND AIA CONTINENTAL EUROPE CHAPTERS TO HOST THE AIA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN LONDON ON SEPTEMBER SEPT 29 OCT 3, 2022. THIS CONFERENCE PROVIDED MORE PROFESSIONAL CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES, WITH MANY LECTURES LATER MADE AVAILABLE ONLINE TO THE WIDER INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE AS RECORDINGS. IT WAS A KEY GATHERING FOR THE WORLDWIDE MEMBER COMMUNITY.THROUGHOUT 2022, AIA INTERNATIONAL COORDINATED EVENTS WITH ITS SEVEN CHAPTERS (UNITED KINGDOM, CONTINENTAL EUROPE, HONG KONG, SHANGHAI, JAPAN, MIDDLE EAST AND CANADA), AS WELL AS CONTINUING TO GROW A NETWORK OF COUNTRY AND REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES BEYOND THE CATCHMENT AREA OF THE ESTABLISHED CHAPTERS. FURTHER, ITS EMERGING PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE LAUNCHED A GLOBAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER MENTORS AND MENTEES AROUND THE WORLD FOR INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT, AS WELL AS HOSTING REGULAR GROUP EVENTS. THE EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION WORKING GROUP CONTINUED TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES IN THESE AREAS THROUGH EVENTS AND GUIDANCE.2022 MARKED THE 9TH YEAR OF THE PRESTIGIOUS AIA INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS, CELEBRATING THE INNOVATIVE THINKING AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE OF AIA MEMBERS' PROJECTS WORLDWIDE. THE PROGRAM CONTINUED TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND ADDED A NEW FOCUS ON INCLUSION AND ACCESSIBILITY, WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE INCLUSIVE DESIGN EXCELLENCE AWARD. WE RECEIVED A RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS FROM CANADA TO JAPAN.AIA INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATED IN THE AIA CONFERENCE ON ARCHITECTURE 2022 IN CHICAGO ON JUNE 22-25, THE FIRST IN-PERSON EDITION OF THIS EVENT SINCE 2019. AS WELL AS HOLDING THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING THERE, WE HOSTED A DESIGN AWARDS CELEBRATION EVENT ACCOMPANIED BY AN EXHIBIT ON THE EXPO FLOOR, TO HIGHLIGHT THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF AIA INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS.FINALLY, WE CONTRIBUTED TO MULTIPLE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE EVENTS, SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL AND TRADE ORGANIZATIONS IN BRAZIL, MEXICO AND NIGERIA.
