THE NURSE ALSO NEGOTIATED BONUS PAYMENTS TO COVER THE INCREASED COST OF SOME INSURANCE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS THE RIGHT TO SELECT AMONG ALL INSURANCE PROGRAMS OFFERED BY THE EMPLOYER PREVIOUSLY THE EMPLOYER OFFERED SOME PLANS ONLY TO NON-UNION STAFF. V. CAPE COD HEALTHCARE A. IN 2022 THE TWO (2) CAPE COD VNA BARGAINING UNITS COMPLETED AND RATIFIED A NEW SINGLE CONTRACT, DOVETAILED SENIORITY WITHIN CAPE COD VNA AND EXTENDED ITS CBA ONE YEAR SO THAT ALL CAPE COD HEALTH CARE CONTRACTS (CAPE COD HOSPITAL, FALMOUTH HOSPITAL, AND THE CC VNA) WILL NOW EXPIRE IN THE SAME YEAR. VI. INDEPENDENTS A. BROCKTON HOSPITAL/SIGNATURE HEALTHCARE AFTER A DEVASTING FIRE ON FEBRUARY 7, 2023, THE MNA NEGOTIATED AN AGREEMENT THAT PROVIDED PAID TIME THROUGH FEBRUARY, PAYMENT FOR COBRA COVERAGE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 30-DAYS AND PROVIDED MOST NURSES WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO REMAIN BROCKTON HOSPITAL NURSES AND BE LEASED TO OTHER AREA HOSPITALS TO WORK. UNFORTUNATELY, THE HOSPITAL MAY NOT OPEN UNTIL 2024. B. MILFORD REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER THE NURSES HAVE WORKED HARD OVER THE PAST YEAR TO IMPLEMENT THEIR FIRST CONTRACT AND TO TRAIN MANAGEMENT HOW TO FUNCTION IN A UNION ENVIRONMENT. VII. SOUTHCOAST A. ST. LUKE'S HOSPITAL THE HARD-FOUGHT STRUGGLE TO ACHIEVE A CONTRACT LEFT THE UNIT DIVIDED AND TIRED. THE EMPLOYER NEVER RELENTED AND EVERY MONTH OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW CONTRACT BROUGHT CONTINUED CONFLICT. THE NURSES ARE DETERMINED TO ORGANIZE THE MEMBERSHIP TO JOIN, PARTICIPATE, AND FIGHT TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS. A WAGE REOPENER IS DESPERATELY NEEDED, AND THE COMMITTEE IS PRESSURING MANAGEMENT TO NEGOTIATE ALSO USING THE MOMENT TO RECRUIT NURSES INTO THE FRAY ONCE MORE. OUR HOPE IS TO CLOSE OUT 2023 WITH A BOLSTERED MEMBERSHIP AND AN IMPROVED WAGE SCALE. THE END OF 2024 WILL BRING NEGOTIATIONS AGAIN AND THE BARGAINING UNIT MUST BE IN FIGHTING SHAPE IF THEY HOPE TO BUILD ON THE GAINS, THEY MADE IN FORMING THEIR UNION AND WINNING A FIRST CONTRACT. B. TOBEY HOSPITAL TOBEY ENTERS BARGAINING WITH A MOSTLY NEW COMMITTEE AND A DETERMINATION TO MAKE SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS AND ACHIEVE PARITY WITH THE SURROUNDING HOSPITALS. IT WILL BE A FIGHT, BUT THE UNIT IS COMMITTED, AND THE COMMITTEE IS EAGER TO WORK WITH THE NEW UNIT AT ST LUKE'S TO BUILD SOLIDARITY. VIII. TENET A. ST VINCENT'S 2023 AT ST VINCENT'S WILL BE KNOWN AS THE YEAR OF ARBITRATIONS. THE HOSPITAL REFUSES TO EVEN ADDRESS ANY GRIEVANCE AND THE WARFARE OF THE STRIKE SEEMS TO SIMPLY CONTINUE INSIDE THE HOSPITAL. WITH NO OPTION BUT TO CONTINUE, THE NURSES OF ST VINCENT HOSPITAL WILL NEVER RELENT. THEY WILL ENFORCE THEIR CONTRACT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. B. METROWEST NATICK BEGINS BARGAINING THIS YEAR. IX. WESTERN MASS A. BAYSTATE FRANKLIN MEDICAL CENTER OUR NEW CONTRACTS WERE PRINTED JUST IN TIME FOR NURSE'S WEEK AND WERE DISTRIBUTED IN THE SPRING. B. BERKSHIRE MEDICAL CENTER WE ARE EXCITED THAT WE WON NEW FLOAT LANGUAGE IN THE MOST RECENT BMC CONTRACT! C. BERKSHIRE UNITED, VNA BERKSHIRE VNA MEMBERS HAVE BEEN NEGOTIATING THEIR FIRST CONTRACT SINCE JUNE OF 2022. THEY HOPE TO BE COMPLETED WITH NEGOTIATIONS BY CONVENTION AND HAVE MORE TO SHARE ABOUT THE SUCCESS AND HARD WORK OF THEIR NEW FIRST CONTRACT. D. BAYSTATE NOBLE BAYSTATE NOBLE HOSPITAL ANNOUNCED THE CLOSURE OF ITS BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNIT. THE COMMITTEE IS PREPARING TO BARGAIN BOTH THE IMPACTS OF THE CLOSURE AND THEIR NEXT CONTRACT, WHICH EXPIRES IN MARCH. X. PUBLIC SECTOR A. UNIT 7 THIS YEAR THE STATE OFFERED ALL THE UNIONS AN 8% RAISE TO BE SPLIT UP IN TWO AND A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR EVERYONE. FOR US, THAT WOULD HAVE MEANT NOT GETTING THE FIRST 4% UNTIL DECEMBER, AND THEN THE SECOND 4% IN JULY OF 2024. FOR THE OTHER UNIONS, THE RAISES WOULD COME MORE QUICKLY BECAUSE THEIR CONTRACTS EXPIRE BEFORE OURS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE OTHER UNIONS TOOK THE DEAL, BUT WE DID NOT. INSTEAD, WE MADE A COUPLE COUNTER OFFERS, WHICH THE STATE REJECTED. SO NOW WE ARE IN FULL NEGOTIATIONS FOR A NEW CONTRACT.
