	General Bar Activities - organize relevant events to foster the goals of the Association. Several award ceremonies are held during the year to honor outstanding contributions and achievements made towards the legal profession. To serve public interest, a number of television programs for local access are produced each year covering different topics of the law and other worthwhile related interests featuring renowned guests considered experts in their field.

	Continuing Legal Education - on January 1, 2006, the Supreme Court of Illinois established minimum continuing legal education ("MCLE") requirements for Illinois attorneys under Illinois Supreme Court Rules 790-798. To help its members meet the plan's requirements, the Chicago Bar Association developed no-cost and low-cost programming by offering accredited committee meetings and discounted seminars. Additionally, it tracks and records members' attendance to its programs to make MCLE reporting easier.

	Lawyer Referral Service - as part of its community service, the Chicago Bar Association maintains a knowledgeable staff of phone interviewers to aid callers needing assistance in finding a suitable attorney. To meet the standards set by the American Bar Association, a panel of over 250 pre-screened, qualified lawyers experienced in almost every area of law are appropriately matched and referred for initial consultation at a predetermined low minimum fee.

Under this guidance, the Association may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of The Chicago Bar Association and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (UBIT). The tax benefits recognized in the consolidated financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 50 percent likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission:	Provide support to individual members through professional activities, continuing legal education, practice committees. legislative updates, publications and other resources to promote excellence and maintain professional standards. Additionally, to offer the public useful legal information.
Form 990, Part I, Line 6:	The Chicago Bar Association (the Organization) has a number of volunteers that serve on its practice committees. These members assist the Organization by volunteering to host and plan continuing education programs, serving as pro bono counsel for litigation concerns, providing pro bono counsel to the community on the Organization's behalf and evaluating judges for the Organization's Judicial Evaluation Committee. In past years, only board members were reported as volunteers on the Form 990.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 4:	The organization's bylaws were updated to correct grammatical errors, replace gender-specific pronouns, remove standard mail as the required medium to notify membership, and allow the Board and committees to meet either in-person or remotely. Additional procedural changes were made for classifications of membership types, meeting procedures, and the timing for election of board members.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6:	The organization has members. The following member classes shall be entitled to vote and be qualified to hold office: Resident Members, Non-resident Members, and Life Members. Student Members shall have those rights and privileges of the membership that the Board may from time to time prescribe.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 7a:	The organization is a voluntary membership association of lawyers. The 24-25 member Board of Managers oversees the affairs of the association. Sixteen (16) board members are elected by the general membership (eight (8) are elected each year for a two-year term). In addition, five (5) officers and the immediate past president serve on the Board of Managers. The President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected annually. One member-at-large may be appointed by the President and at the first meeting of the year, the Board shall elect a representative of the Association's Young Lawyers Section. The Executive Director implements Board policy and administers the operations of the association.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b:	The organization's Form 990 is prepared by an outside accounting firm. Internal management then reviews the Form 990 and approves the return for filing.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15a:	An executive compensation committee organized by the Board reviews the compensation package for the Executive Director and recommends any proposals to the whole governing Board for deliberation and approval. The Controller provides assistance by obtaining comparability data from similar organizations in size and operation, including Forms 990 of other organizations. The compensation is approved by the Board.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19:	The organization does not currently have its governing documents and financial statements readily available to the public. Nonetheless, the organization promptly attends to any request for disclosure for the same period of disclosure as set forth in IRC section 6104(d).
