DURING FISCAL YEAR 2022/23 PITTOCK MANSION RETURNED TO ITS SEVEN-DAY OPERATIONAL SCHEDULE AFTER TWO YEARS OF CLOSURE AND REDUCED PUBLIC HOURS DUE TO COVID. THE APPOINTMENT OF A NEW CEO IN MAY 2022 AND THE LAUNCH OF A NEW AND DYNAMIC VISION, PITTOCK 2.0 INITIATED A NEW TRAJECTORY OF GROWTH FOR THE ORGANIZATION WITH REVITALIZATION OF EXHIBITS, PROGRAMS, PARTNERSHIP BUILDING, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ENHANCED COLLECTION STEWARDSHIP EFFORTS. | FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4B | CONTINUING WITH PRESERVATION AND COLLECTIONS CARE ACTIVITIES: AS PART OF THE NEW VISION, PITTOCK MANSION PRIORITIZED REOPENING AND REORGANIZING TWO OF THE THREE HISTORIC BUILDINGS ON CAMPUS. THIS WAS ESSENTIAL FOR OFFERING QUALITY GUEST EXPERIENCE, SMOOTHER TICKETING AND GUEST FLOW AND ALLOWING MORE WORKSPACES FOR PITTOCK'S GROWING STAFF TEAM. THIS MAJOR PROJECT TOOK OVER 6-8 MONTHS OF CROSS DEPARTMENTAL PLANNING, REVISING THE INTERPRETATION, ORDERING, AND SETTING UP NEW FURNITURE, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPORTING TECHNOLOGY INSTALLATIONS SUCH AS PHONE AND INTERNET. WE ALSO HAD TO COME UP WITH A NEW STAFFING STRUCTURE FOR COVERING THE ENTIRE CAMPUS VS ONE BUILDING. THIS INCLUDED REGULAR CLEANING OF ALL THE ARTIFACTS ON DISPLAY, CONDITION MONITORING, NECESSARY MITIGATION OF PEST AND OTHER CONSERVATION NEEDS OF THE ARTIFACTS IN STORAGE AND DATABASE MAINTENANCE. DURING THIS REPORTING PERIOD, WE WERE ABLE TO ORGANIZE AND GENERATE AN UPDATED MASTER LIST OF NEARLY 7000 ARTIFACTS IN THE COLLECTION. THE CITY OF PORTLAND, PARKS AND RECREATION WHO OWN THE BUILDINGS, IN COLLABORATION WITH PITTOCK MANSION SOCIETY STAFF PERFORMED SIGNIFICANT MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES IN ALL THE THREE BUILDINGS. THIS INCLUDED ANNUAL MAINTENANCE OF THE 1914 ELEVATOR, GUTTER, FLOOR, AND DEEP CLEANING OF THE INTERIORS OF ALL BUILDINGS AND MORE. SOME WATER INTRUSION IN THE LIBRARY AND EXHIBIT AREAS AND HEATING SYSTEM FIXES WERE ALSO ADDRESSED BY THE CITY. THE ORIGINAL WOODEN RAILING OF THE GRAND STAIRCASE IN THE MANSION HAD STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF SIGNIFICANT USE AND NEEDED ATTENTION TO PREVENT FURTHER DETERIORATION. DURING THE ANNUAL MAINTENANCE DAYS, PARKS MAINTENANCE CREW SANDED, RETOUCHED, AND VARNISHED THE RAILING BRINGING IT BACK TO ITS BEAUTIFUL STATE. ASSESSING THE CRITICAL NEED TO MONITOR AND ADDRESS THE IMMEDIATE, INTERIM AND LONG-TERM HISTORIC PRESERVATION NEEDS OF THE BUILDINGS ON PITTOCK CAMPUS, THE SOCIETY'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS REINSTATED A PRESERVATION COMMITTEE COMPRISING OF STAFF, BOARD MEMBERS AND PRESERVATION EXPERTS. OVERALL, THE YEAR 2022-23 WAS MARKED WITH MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS AND STABILITY OF OPERATIONS. |
