	Government Affairs and Advocacy: ACA's Paint Councils are a network of grassroots organizations representing the association in its efforts to promote the interests of the coatings industry at the state level. ACA's Paint Councils provide a forum for companies doing business in those states to interact with each other and with their elected officials. Administration and coordination of the Paint Council Network is overseen by the association's government affairs committee. Experience, to date, has shown that an organized, informed membership can make a significant difference in the outcome of public policy debates concerning coatings industry issues. Paint Council membership and participation is available to ACA corporate members only, since it is membership dues that support the work of the Paint Councils. Actions taken by each Paint Council are determined by its membership at regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year. Each Paint Council has professional staff for lobbying and association management.

	Events and Communications: ACA events focus on the latest technological innovations in the coatings field and allied industries. They offer detailed analysis on specific areas of coatings technology and are geared to a global audience. ACA also offers a variety of publications that highlight and address the issues in the coatings industry.

	Government, Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs: ACA's accomplishments include the following: providing technical assistance to federal and state agencies on air quality requirements for coatings and coatings facilities as well as guidance to the industry to facilitate compliance; convinced the state of Illinois to adopt a paint stewardship program for architectural paints and in California, assisted in the passage of legislation allowing the collection of aerosol coatings in the existing paint recovery program; the award of numerous safety awards to member facilities meeting the OSHA safety standards, provided assistance to several state and federal agencies on rulemakings impacting manufacture, labeling, transport and distribution of coatings products, and developed guidance for "Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission:	The American Coatings Association (ACA) is a voluntary, nonprofit trade association working to advance the needs of the paint and coatings industry and the professionals who work in it. The organization represents paint and coatings manufacturers, raw materials suppliers, distributors, and technical professionals. ACA serves as an advocate and ally for members on legislative, regulatory and judicial issues, and provides forums for the advancement and promotion of the industry through educational and professional development services.
Form 990, Part III, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission:	The Association shall advance the interests of the coatings industry and serve as its chief advocate and spokesperson before the government and public; domestically and globally. The Association shall undertake programs and services that support the coatings industry's commitment to environmental protection, sustainability, product stewardship, health and safety, corporate responsibility, and the advancement of science and technology.
Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 6	The American Coatings Association is a membership organization and member companies pay dues based on pre-approved dues schedules. The following classes of corporate memberships fall within different dues structures and include varied services depending upon classification: coatings manufacturer; supplier; distributors; associate; equipment and sundries; caulks, sealants, adhesives and printing ink manufacturers; and coatings science and technology professionals.

Enforcement and monitoring are done, if needed, and the policies are subject to periodic review.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15	In accordance with Article VII, Section 2 of the Association bylaws, the Compensation Committee appointed by the Chair, consisting of the Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer, and two members selected from the Executive Committee meet once per year to discuss and determine executive staff compensation. An independent consultant prepares the data of comparable compensation for like-qualified persons in functionally comparable positions at similarly-situated organizations.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19	The Association provides a copy of the Form 990, 990-T, and/or D-20 upon request in either PDF format or in hard-copy printed format as the requestor desires and within a reasonable time period (usually within 24 hours of the request). Conflict of interest, anti-trust and the whistle-blower policies are incorporated in the Association's Employee Handbook/Manual and are available on the Association's intranet site for access by the staff. Governing documents (Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, conflict of interest, anti-trust policies) are included in the membership directory, and Association website accessible to all staff and members.
