| Schedule O: | We sought the help of someone who was the accountant for one of the organizations we work with in the community and thought she was a trusted and professional accountant. I learned last year that the organization had to terminate her employment when they learned that she tried to embezzle money from their corporate account and that she was also a convicted felon. We had already contracted and paid her to prepare and file our 990EZ for 2022 and 2023. After thinking she had filed the forms as agreed, I learned she only emailed a copy of the 990EZ for 2022 to our business email account. I learned that the 990EZ for 2022 was not filed when I received a letter from the IRS. I immediately mailed the copy that I received from the accountant. The entire filing for 2022 was returned and I received it in our mail today. I had our QuickBooks assistant prepare the 990EZ for 2023; however, it has not been submitted nor filed electronically. We will submit the form electronically immediately. This matter will be rectified and all future 990EZ filings will be submitted electronically and within the required deadline for filing. Also, the notice we received today stated that because of the late filings, we may be imposed penalties of $20 per day. Please accept this explanation as our Reasonable Cause Letter. Our organization cannot bear the financial penalty. Your understanding and consideration are greatly appreciated. |
