| Form 990, Part I, Line 8 | In 2022, Prior Year, Longmont Rotary Charity Fund (LRCF) filed a 990-N as required. Market growth and actions to re-position investments required filing Form 990 in 2023. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 2 | Form 990-N was required in prior years without any program detail. Therefore all of the programs listed in Form 990 are newly documented here, though many have been completed in prior years, and detailed explanations are provided. The Longmont Emergency Unit, Hearing the Call, and Growing Gardens grants were new for 2023. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d | Winter Warmth Coat Drive: Annual coat drive to secure coats, scarves, gloves, boots, and blankets for distribution through the OUR Center. LRCF Funding was used to purchase coats in children's sizes that are not donated in large enough quantities during the coat drive to meet the need. Fishbowl: Monthly donations are made to local charities selected by nominations to the Longmont Rotary Fishbowl Committee. LRCF added $250/month to each donation. Compassion Awards: The Compassion Awards are given to students who exemplify compassion as reflected in the Tower of Compassion's five levels of compassion. The five levels are: Love, Empathy, Understanding, Gratitude and Selfless Giving. The tower was donated to the City of Longmont by the Kanemoto Family and is located in Kanemoto Park in Southmoor Park, Longmont, Colorado. 4 students were chosen to receive the award which includes $250 to the student and $250 donated to the charity of the student's choice. The students experience public speaking and charitable giving through this program. Veterans Community Project: The Veterans Community Project (VCP) provides counseling services for Veterans. The VCP Village - Longmont is a crossover venture between Veterans Community Project, the City of Longmont, and HMS Development. Located on a 2-acre property in Longmont, the Village will feature 26 tiny houses and a 3,000-square foot Community Center. This grant is a pass-through of monies raised through the Longmont Rotary Woohoomanity fundraiser in 2022. Hearing the Call: Hearing the Call Colorado (a Project of Hearing the Call, Inc.) provides access to hearing healthcare for low income, uninsured, and underinsured residents of Colorado through the volunteer service of professional audiologists across Colorado. Each audiology practice designates specific dates to open their clinic to provide hearing screenings and assessments for these low-income patients. Those who fail the hearing screens are referred for follow up care with the audiologist. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale based on household income to make them affordable and accessible for the patient. This grant will specifically be used for services provided by Longmont Hearing & Tinnitus Center for patients who are residents of Longmont and the Vrain Valley. We are projecting serving approximately 32 residents of Longmont and the Vrain Valley at an average cost of $77 per patient. Born to Read Program: This all-volunteer program provides information and books to parents of newborns at Longmont United Hospital (LUH) and Longs Peak Hospital. Materials encourage reading aloud to infants and toddlers. Two board books suitable for an infant are included. Nurses in the Birth Place provide counsel and distribute the bags which are in English and Spanish. Born to Read celebrated 31 years in 2023 and has been supported by Longmont Rotary since its beginning. Rotary District Matching Grant - Growing Gardens: Growing Gardens works to ensure that every family in Boulder County can access fresh healthy food while caring for the environment, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to nourish their bodies, their community, and their planet. This grant will help start a new Food Project Farm on 15th and Pratt in Longmont, Colorado because 60% of the Longmont Food Project's previous growing space has been repurposed for an athletic field. Funding will provide infrastructure needs such as Irrigation systems, Compost, Tools, Harvest Baskets, Coolers, Fencing, Seeds, and Pots |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 3 | Investment funds previously managed by the Longmont Rotary Charity Fund Finance Committee at T. Rowe Price were transferred to an Agency Fund at the Longmont Community Foundation. These funds are now professionally managed without sole dependence on the finance skills of board members. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 | The members of the Rotary Club of Longmont, Colorado are members of the Longmont Rotary Charity Fund, Inc. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a | Members of the Longmont Rotary Charity Fund elect the board directors each year at the Annual Meeting in January. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7b | Member vote is required for any bylaws change. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b | The Longmont Rotary Charity Fund (LRCF) Finance Committee reviews the first draft of the Form 990 and schedules. Their comments are incorporated as necessary, and the updated draft is included in the March quarterly board meeting packet for board review. Any comments from board members at the board meeting are addressed before the completed Form 990 and associated schedules are filed. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 | All Longmont Rotary Charity Fund governing documents and financial statements are uploaded to the Documents section on the Longmont Rotary ClubRunner website: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/6866. This serves as a central repository and this Form 990 will be uploaded to the site after it has been filed and accepted by the IRS. |
