IN 2023, THE HANDS4HOPE - YOUTH MAKING A DIFFERENCE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY COMMITTEE CONTINUED TO OPERATE THE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY OUT OF THE PLACERVILLE HANDS4HOPE YOUTH CENTER. THE HANDS4HOPE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY COLLECTED AND DISTRIBUTED 6,014 POUNDS OF FOOD TO 573 PEOPLE EXPERIENCING FOOD INSECURITY. THE HANDS4HOPE EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY HAS MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR MANY OF OUR LOCAL FAMILIES, MANY OF WHOM HAVE EXPRESSED APPRECIATION NOT ONLY FOR THE FOOD, BUT FOR THE WAY THEY ARE ALWAYS MET BY YOUTH AND ADULTS WHO ARE GRACIOUS, RESPECTFUL AND FUN. ~MARGARET LEWIS, MCKINNEY-VENTO COORDINATOR EL DORADO COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION IN TOTAL, THE HANDS4HOPE - YOUTH MAKING A DIFFERENCE EDUCATION PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS: LOGGED 9,146 SERVICE HOURS, RAISED 61,397, AND COLLECTED AND DISTRIBUTED 19,968 ITEMS FOR CAUSES CLOSE TO THEIR HEARTS, SERVING MORE THAN 3,139 PEOPLE IN NEED. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM YOUTH LEARN HOW TO BE CIVIC MINDED. LINE 4B - SECOND PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENT - COMMUNITY OUTREACH (CONTINUED) THE PARTICIPANTS CREATED 1,070 CARDS, CRAFTS, AND DESSERTS FOR SENIORS, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN. THE YOUTH ALSO SERVED 6,755 MEALS AND COLLECTED 16,903 ITEMS OF CLOTHING, TOILETRIES, AND BASIC HOUSEHOLD ITEMS THROUGH THE WARM AND FUZZY DRIVE AND THE TOILETRIES DRIVE. THESE ITEMS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL AGENCIES, COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN NEED, AS WELL AS TO THOSE STILL STRUGGLING DUE TO THE CALDOR FIRE. THE YOUTH PARTICIPANTS ALSO MADE 145 NO-SEW BLANKETS WHICH WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES IN NEED DURING THE 6 DAYS OF WINTER BOUTIQUE EVENTS TO HELP KEEP THESE FAMILIES WARM. THROUGH THESE OPPORTUNITIES AND INTERACTIONS WITH THOSE IN NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY, THE YOUTH PARTICIPANTS LEARN TO BE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE. MY FAVORITE OUTREACH HAS DEFINITELY BEEN THE GREEN VALLEY COMMUNITY CHURCH. I ENJOY IT BECAUSE I GET TO HELP PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE MEET THEIR DAY TO DAY NECESSITIES. SEEING THE HARD WORK OF SERVING AND PREPARING THE DISHES BEING MET WITH 'THANK YOU'S AND GRATITUDE MAKES IT ALL WORTH IT.
