| Form 990-EZ, Part III, Line (28-31) | Part III Line 28 - Community Outreach Programs: These programs are run by volunteers and offered in our local community and some areas across the state, 20 percent of the time is spent on the program, funded by donations and less than one percent of overall expenses are allocated per year. * Our outreach programs aim to assist organizations in expanding Down syndrome awareness and education. We work with healthcare organizations to help make a positive impact on the health of people with Down syndrome, collaborate with local community organizations to organize awareness events and serve as an advocate in government for people with Down syndrome and their families. * Our Hospital Outreach Program Coordinator connects new parents with the resources and information they need and also seeks to further educate medical providers about Down syndrome and how to deliver a Down syndrome diagnosis. Our Community Outreach Program Coordinator provides lectures and workshops and holds events to celebrate and create awareness of Down syndrome. The workshops include info about Special Needs Trusts, IEPs, and how to promote inclusion. * Our Legislative Outreach Program Coordinator provides members with information about legislative actions that directly affect people with Down syndrome and ensures our members are represented. * World Down Syndrome Day event is an annual celebration. We have refreshments in the BSU Hall Of Fame and dancing set up on the blue turf. Approximately 200-300 people attend this event every year. * Our Hispanic Outreach Program is a partnership with the Children's Developmental Disabilities program, which offers monthly support group meetings and social events. These events provide an opportunity for Spanish-speaking families to receive support, encouragement, education, and information for services in our community. We have extended participation to families in other parts of the state by offering virtual and in-person meetings. We serve over 40 members through this program across the State of Idaho. * Member Scholarships are run by the board members and offered to any active member of TVDSA, 5 percent of our time is spent on the program, funded by donations and 1 percent of total expenses are spent on this category. However, about 8 percent of total budgeted expenses are allocated per year: We have two scholarship programs. Workshop or conference scholarships are available to any current member of TVDSA. There are many conferences and workshops that provide education about advocacy, inclusion, health concerns, early education, higher education, and a multitude of other topics, specifically concerning individuals with Down syndrome and individuals with developmental delays in general. All of our members can apply for a scholarship of up to $500 per year to attend conferences or workshops. Recipients of these scholarships then report back to the Board with a summary of the valuable information they have gleaned from the conference. Education Scholarships are available to any current member of TVDSA with Down syndrome seeking higher education. It provides up to $1000 a year per individual. Part III Line 29 - Social Groups program is run by volunteers and conducted in our local community, about 40 percent of time is spent on the program, funded by donations, and 42 percent of overall expenses are allocated per year. We have several social groups that help our members connect. We serve over 200 community members through our social groups annually through our monthly events. Lil Buddies is a monthly social group for our youngest members, ages 5 and under, with Down syndrome. It's an opportunity for families who are fairly new to the world of Down syndrome to make friends and build a support network. Best Buds is a monthly social group for children 6-11 with Down syndrome. Most of our kids are entering the school system and Best Buds is a great chance for parents to bounce ideas off each other regarding IEPS, behavioral issues, and inclusion. It also gives the kids the opportunity to make friends and practice their social skills. Cool Club is a monthly social group for kids 12-17 with Down syndrome. It provides teenagers, who are either entering or in high school, with a safe space to practice their communication and social skills, make friends, and have fun. Adults in Motion (A.I.M.) is a monthly social group for adults with Down syndrome, age 18 and up. In A.I.M., we encourage our members to have fun, make friends, and be a self-advocate. Moms' Night Out and Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (D.A.D.S.): Both of our parent groups meet monthly and give members the opportunity to relax and socialize as well as offer support, encouragement, and advice. |
