The 2023 program, Housing Now: Design/Access/Delivery, examined the topics of land use, financing, and delivery to address the urgent need to develop plentiful, diverse, and sustainable housing options for current and future residents of Seattle. From 113 submissions, the jury chose 21 award winners from three submission categories encompassing Built, Conceptual, and Research & Innovation projects. Across the broad view of project types, the jury celebrated the strong design culture and societal impacts of the work in and from Washington State.Building Code Series: AIA Seattles Code Committee, featuring experts from both public and private sectors, annually selects vital building code topics to support critical education for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) professionals. The 2023 program, Code Reload explored the topics of 2021 building code adoption and updates, elevators, small commerical code, and code 101. Across four sessions, the program featured eleven (11) speakers and engaged 434 attendees who garnered deep technical expertise on code changes relevant to their practice.Climate Leadership Summit: AIA Seattles annual Climate Summit brings together interdisciplinary leaders and design professionals to amplify the role of profession in climate and sustainability at varying scales. The 2023 program engaged 150 attendees and 17 speakers to explore Decarbonization for Health Equity and Communittee Resilience.Safety Assessment Program: The post-disaster Safety Assessment Training Program (SAP) provides architects, engineers, building officials, and inspectors with the knowledge to provide evaluation of buildings and larger infrastructure in the aftermath of a disastrous event. In 2023, this all-hazards training course equipped 34 attendees to be first-responders, providing them with the knowledge to help folks transition to safely reoccupying, clearing, or demolishing buildings after a major event.AHC Spring/Fall Conferences: For over 30 years, the Architecture for Health Committee (AHC) has provided vital networking and education programming for a regional audience spanning Washington and Oregon, dedicated to healthcare design, systems, and strategies. In 2023, AHC drew 197 attendees and 22 speakers for two conferences centered on Designing for All: Accessibility in Health and Wellness and The Native American Voice in Healthcare. Firm Leadershiup Training - Justice & Equity Cohort Series: AIA Seattles JEDI Series, Culture Change in Practice, is a four-part, peer-based learning program facilited by Dr. Anu Taranath that was designed by a team of architects and allied professionals as a response to racist violence, inequitable firm culture, and a segregated built environment. The 2023 program was selected as a grant award winner for the 2023 Component Grants Program by AIA Trust and engaged 14 firm leaders in critical dialogue, self-assessment, deep engagement, and ongoing action to facilitate broader impact within their firms and industry. Committee Programs: AIA Seattles member committees present programs and host events on a wide variety of design, advocacy, and practice issues to expand personal and professional interests and advance specific knowledge areas. In 2023, 15 member committees hosted 51 events and offered 43.5 continuing education (CE) units.
