Pt VI, Line 6 Any person may be a Farm Bureau member. All Farm Bureau members have the same vote and access to member benefits.
Pt VI, Line 7a The Organizations members elect the Board of Directors each year at the annual meeting. In order to hold an officer position within Farm Bureau, the member must be actively engaged in farming, which must be his/her primary interest.
Pt VI, Line 7b Decisions of the governing body subject to approval by members include setting annual membership dues and nominating voting delegates to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation.
Pt VI, Line 11b Management reviews the documents and presents the return to all members of the governing body. Following final board approval, the return is signed by an officer and submitted to the IRS.
Pt VI, Line 12c On an annual basis, all officers, directors, and key employees are required to sign a statement which affirms that they have: 1) received a copy of the conflict of interest policy, 2) read and understood the policy, 3) agreed to comply with the policy, 4) understand that the Organization is tax-exempt and in order to maintain its federal tax exemption it must engage primarily in activities which accomplish its tax-exempt purpose. A sub-committee, comprised of non-conflicted Board of Directors, annually receives all conflict of interest information, reviews, and determines if there are conflicts of interest. The committee then reports its findings back to the Board.
Pt VI, Line 19 The Organization does not make its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, or financial statements available for public inspection. Pursuant to state law, some documents may be available to members.
Other Part III, Line 4a - Public Policy - Promoted the issue surfacing and issue prioritization process by getting members to participate through electronic surveys. Calhoun County Farm Bureau volunteers met with elected officials at a State, National, and Local level to promote agriculture and advocate for issues important to members. Issues included property tax relief, rural safety, school financing, water quality, infrastructure, and veterinary. Members represented the County Farm Bureau on school task forces to work on school finance and long-term planning that directly affects property taxes of Calhoun County members. Members advocated for Farm Bureau policy to the County Board of Supervisors. Board Members volunteered and took part in discussion of local EMS Pilot Program which aligned with policy goals.
Other Part III, Line 4b - Education - Promoted scholarship opportunities for members awarding two scholarships to high school seniors in 2023. Sponsored members to attend the Iowa Farm Bureau GRIT media training conference. Advertised the Young Farmer Conference to engage the next generation in leadership development and educational opportunities. Enhanced the County Agriculture in the Classroom program, where students from all the public-school districts in Calhoun County participated. The Countys Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator reached over 120 students across the countys schools, providing more than 4 lessons in each participating classroom. Promoted conservation practices and education on cover crops through an informational Farm Tour Day. Participated in monthly educational activities such as, Beef Month, in May. Board members provided lessons at High School on Careers in Agriculture and safety around farm equipment.
Other Part III, Line 4c - Public Relations - Organized a promotion to support 4 local food pantries including an event during the county fair through an activity called, Cram the Cab, July 5-8. Hosted a booth to allow the public a dedicated opportunity to speak with board members at RVTV during the Summer news media event all while promoting the County Farm Bureau and handing out 300 t-shirts. Sponsored 15 local radio advertisements to engage the public in agriculture and to encourage the support of meat production. Sponsored and provided Agriculture Trivia contest during a basketball game at competing schools within the county. A tractor pull contest was held at Western Days, providing medals for different age group winners impacting 40 families.
