Local filmmaker Tom Thurman introduced his film and did a Q&A immediately following the screening. 350 people attended this screening, selling out our smaller auditorium. - Neat: The Story of Bourbon + Panel Discussion To celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month, we screened this documentary film on the colorful history of this iconic Kentucky beverage. The screening was followed by a panel discussion that included the film's director along with notable figures from the Bourbon industry, including the first female master distiller. - Changing the Game + Q&A - In partnership with JustFundKy and Frontrunners Lexington, we screened this documentary about three high school transgender athletes. The film was followed by a Q&A with one of the featured athletes, the film's producer, and others in Kentucky's transgender rights movement. - King Coal + Director Q&A - A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, King Coal meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry, the communities it has shaped, and the myths it has created. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Elaine McMillion Sheldon was on hand for a Q&A following the film. - Bluegrass Spirits + Director Q&A - Filmed in Kentucky, Bluegrass Spirits is a dramatic comedy, feature-length film about Kentucky, Kentucky Bourbon, Kentucky folks, and ghosts. We premiered this film and hosted filmmaker Jonny Walls for a Q&A following the screening. More than 400 people attended this free film premiere. - The Shot Heard Round the World: The Coming of the American Revolution + Director Q&A - Produced by the Witnessing History Education Foundation, this documentary covers the events leading up to the Revolutionary War. The free screening was followed by a Q&A with Kentucky filmmaker Kent Masterson Brown. - CURATED FILM SERIES: - Twelve Lions Film Festival - Lexington's first competitive international film festival, Twelve Lions is a four-day event showcasing quality independent film from around the world. Through film premieres, retrospectives, workshops, panels, meet-and-greets, and other networking events, we aim to further the careers of emerging filmmakers and to deepen the film lover's appreciation of cinema in all its richness and diversity. More than 800 people attended the inaugural year of this film festival. - The Rosa Goddard International Film Series An annual celebration of cinema classics from around the world. - Psychedelic Cinema This series explores the world of psychedelic music concert film. The series is a partnership between The Kentucky Theatre and Expansion: Lexington's Psychedelic Experience & Music Festival. - Amour Fou Film Production Company Retrospective A look back at the work of Amour Fou Film Production, European producers of dozens of artistically exceptional feature, documentary, and short films for the international market. - ART ON SCREEN: ART ON SCREEN seeks to broaden an interest in the arts through the creative pairing of films about art and artists with entertaining discussions by notable speakers from the world of art and art history. ART ON SCREEN is a partnership with the University of Kentucky Art Museum. - Freaky Fridays: Your Monthly Fix of Cult Film Freaky Fridays is a monthly deep dive into the world of cult film, screen the weird, the surreal, the shocking, and the just plain so-bad-it's-good. - One World Film Festival The Kentucky Theatre partnered with the University of Kentucky to present six global films featuring stories of individuals whose reproductive lives are shaped by cultural mores and legislative or government policy. - CharacterFEST - CharacterFEST honors the unsung heroes of film, actors known for playing unusual or interesting characters in supporting roles. CharacterFEST is a partnership between The Kentucky Theatre and the Harry Dean Stanton Fest. |
