28 2023 has been very interesting from the beginning of the year we have started off with tanning a buffalo rawhide which was given to out project to help the youtgh lear their tanning skills working with larger, thicker hides different from the sheep or goat hide, much more work goes into it and takes longer. This is a tool which will be used again and again in the future and which these youth teach to other in the future. These hides once processed can be used for beddings, ceremonial mats, or made into other items such as clothing, moccasins. By this time in early spring we have a week long trip to the desert to begin identifying wild food plants and harvesting a few different kinds, to dry and process them. along with this trip we were able to go to a big gathering to network with other tribes in the region, we were able to learn about the local issues of concern for the environment which is being face with copper mining by international companies interested in developing to make more weapons and the meantime displacement of people and ceremonial site of the Apache, Gila and other native nations. These tripalso, help help the youth learn about the geography and physical changes in the land and regions, from that we hope These tripalso, help help the youth learn about the geography and physical changes in the land and regions, from that we hope to learn mapping. We also have been presenting to other communities about health benefits of food and water. We are able to share seeds. Over the summer we were doing a lot of public education on impacts of climate change, and we have been trying to network with different communities that are in need of services and that are being challenged, some places have heavy equipment but no one knows how to operate them and no one to train them. Indigenous Cultural Concepts has presented at the Family and Nature National Gathering which we were able to connect withs, much educators of nature from this conference. We have made such a good impact. With family in Nature we were able to obtain more skills with nature like - spider hunting, night light search for things that glow at night insects. ICC's goal is to give the underserved youth to gain knowledge and help them learn about the world outside their own. With that we were able to send 4 youth and one of our youth coordinators went scuba diving to see life underwater in Florida. They have loved this so much. After all ICC we help at lots of ceremonial gatherings cooking, washing dishes, gathering and keeping the fires going. We help out with lending our camping equipment, providing community education and providing land base education, networking and building support for communities in need. ICC provides Native Foodways Education for better health, environment and sustainability, food processing and storage techniques. We hope to keep these actions moving and looking forward to the coming seasons. Currently, we are engaged in building a hiking, biking trail which we hope will go across he Navajo Nation and on into the four corners region. We are in the outreach education process for now. We do hope that all programs will continue to empower our communities. Budget: $3,000.00 + Communication $4,000.00 + fees and conference costs $7,000.00 + Travel $4,000.00 + Workshops/educational material $4,000.00 = $18,000.00

29 THE WOMEN OF COLOR IN LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT The Women of Color in Leadership Movement (WCLM), was founded in 2015 and became sponsored by Media Island in 2016, within that short time we were able to accomplish much of our goals for the year that helped us build our foundational roots. We have been able to have monthly support group meetings, and support one another with shared resources, ideas, fundraising, training and organizing. WCLM has participated in various cultural events that support our communities, such as our local activists and their events. Our newly developed partnerships connect with both local and international organizations that focus on women of color and their empowerment and leadership. We have participated in workshops, cultural festivals, trainings and lectures, and have been able to send some of our members to these events. We have been able to support our members in leading their own workshops and presentations as well as supported them in their cultural artistic efforts. We have also been able to offer some support to students of at several of our local State Colleges, who were affected by the current racial tensions on campus, and in the community of Olympia. Some of our future goals are to bring more guest speakers, cultural trainings and workshops/ spokesperson and activist on racial issues, as well as women from our local Native tribes. These speakers would be able to address many of the issues around race, class, and gender, as well as the effects of colonization on Black and Brown peoples. We also hope to send a group of the women to conferences and workshops statewide and to able to make international connections as well to help foster their resiliency tools.
