ORGANIZATION'S MISSION FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1 GEORGIAN COURT OFFERS A COMPREHENSIVE LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION IN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC TRADITION, WITH A SPECIAL CONCERN FOR WOMEN, AND IS COMMITTED TO ITS CORE VALUES OF JUSTICE, RESPECT, INTEGRITY, SERVICE, AND COMPASSION.
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A INSTRUCTIONAL DEGREE PROGRAM IN 2022-23 GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY ENROLLED 1,962 STUDENTS IN MORE THAN 30 UNDERGRADUATE AND OVER 10 DISTINCTIVE GRADUATE PROGRAMS THROUGH THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATION, THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, THE HACKENSACK MERIDIAN HEALTH SCHOOL OF NURSING & WELLNESS, AND THE SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. THE UNIVERSITY'S FASTEST-GROWING AND MOST COMPETITIVE DEGREE PROGRAM, THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN), BENEFITS FROM ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH HACKENSACK MERIDIAN HEALTH, ONE OF THE LARGEST HEALTHCARE NETWORKS IN NEW JERSEY. GCU CONTINUES TO MEET MARKETPLACE DEMANDS AND IN 2022-23 GRADUATED THE SECOND COHORT OF THE ACCELERATED BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (A.B.S.N.) STUDENTS. ADDITIONALLY 2022-23 MARKED THE LAUNCH OF THE MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM. OUR HISTORY GEORGIAN COURT, LOCATED IN HISTORIC LAKEWOOD, NEW JERSEY, IS THE ONLY CATHOLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION SERVING RESIDENTS THROUGHOUT CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY. THE UNIVERSITY HAS HISTORIC ROOTS AS A WOMEN'S COLLEGE, AND SERVED MEN IN EVENING AND GRADUATE COURSES, USUALLY PART-TIME, UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2012. GCU BECAME FULLY COEDUCATIONAL IN SEPTEMBER 2013 WITH THE ADDITION OF MEN IN CAMPUS RESIDENCE HALLS AND THE LAUNCH OF MEN'S ATHLETICS. BY THE 2022-23 ACADEMIC YEAR, GCU'S UNDERGRADUATE POPULATION WAS 73% FEMALE AND 27% MALE WITH MEN PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS, STUDENT ACTIVITIES, CAMPUS MINISTRY, CAMPUS LEADERSHIP, AND RESIDENCE LIFE. GCU PROVIDES ALL STUDENTS WITH A VALUES-BASED LIBERAL ARTS EDUCATION THAT (1) ENHANCES THEIR MARKETABILITY AFTER GRADUATION; (2) EMPHASIZES PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP; AND (3) PREPARES THEM TO MAKE MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTIONS IN THEIR CAREERS, IN COMMUNITIES AND IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS. AT THE SAME TIME, GCU EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF FORMATION, WHOLE-PERSONHOOD AND EXPERIENCES THAT HELP STUDENTS BECOME JUST AND COMPASSIONATE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY. THE GCU OFFICE OF MISSION OFTEN LEADS THESE EFFORTS THROUGH SPECIAL PROGRAMMING, COLLOQUIA FOCUSED ON CATHOLIC INTELLECTUAL TRADITION, AND BY CREATING EXPERIENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS. AS A ROMAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY, GCU WELCOMES STUDENTS FROM ALL RELIGIOUS, ETHNIC, AND SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS. THE ENTIRE GCU COMMUNITY BENEFITS FROM THE UNIVERSITY'S EMBRACE OF ITS MERCY CORE VALUES OF RESPECT, INTEGRITY, JUSTICE, COMPASSION, AND SERVICE. GCU WAS ACKNOWLEDGED DURING THE 2022-23 YEAR BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT IN ITS BEST REGIONAL UNIVERSITIES NORTH RANKINGS. AT #101, ALSO NOTED THE UNIVERSITY AS A TOP PERFORMER IN THE SOCIAL MOBILITY CATEGORY AGAIN. THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY EXCELS AT DELIVERING A CURRICULUM THAT IS DESIGNED TO ENGAGE STUDENTS AND ALLOWS FOR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPLORATION IN THEIR COURSEWORK IN AND OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. GCU'S SMALL STUDENT-FACULTY RATIO OF 11:1 ALLOWS STUDENTS TO LEARN IN HIGHLY PERSONALIZED CLASSES AND ENABLES STUDENTS TO DO WELL-BEYOND ACADEMICS- BECAUSE OF HIGH-IMPACT LEARNING PRACTICES. THESE INCLUDE LEARNING COMMUNITIES, SERVICE LEARNING, RESEARCH WITH FACULTY, STUDY ABROAD, INTERNSHIPS AND SENIOR CAPSTONES. SUCH HIGH-IMPACT PRACTICES (HIIP) ARE A STRENGTH AT GEORGIAN COURT. ONE SIGNIFICANT EXAMPLE OF HIGH-IMPACT PRACTICES IN ACTION WAS THE WORK OF GCU NURSING STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC AND BEYOND. GCU'S LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, ITS APPROACHABLE FACULTY AND ITS EXTENSIVE RANGE OF PROGRAMS AIMED AT ENSURING STUDENT SUCCESS ARE IMPORTANT TO ALL LEARNERS. THEY ARE CRITICAL, HOWEVER, TO THOSE WHO ARE FIRST IN THEIR FAMILIES TO ATTEND COLLEGE. ABOUT 34 PERCENT OF ALL GCU STUDENTS IN 2022-23 WERE FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENTS. THIS APPROACH IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO THE SUCCESS OF GCU STUDENTS FROM LOWER-INCOME FAMILIES, INCLUDING THE 39 PERCENT OF STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED FEDERAL PELL GRANTS IN 2022-23. ACCOLADES GEORGIAN COURT RECEIVED SEVERAL ACCOLADES IN 2022-23, INCLUDING BEING AMONG THE BEST INSTITUTIONS IN THE NORTHEAST REGION, AS RANKED BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT. THE MAGAZINE ALSO AGAIN NOTED GCU'S ABILITY TO HELP STUDENTS FROM MODEST FINANCIAL BACKGROUNDS MOVE INTO THE MIDDLE CLASS. GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY WAS ONCE AGAIN RECOGNIZED BY PHI THETA KAPPA AS AN INSTITUTION THAT CREATES PATHWAYS FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS SEEKING TO TRANSFER TO A FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTION. GROWTH, RETENTION AND ACHIEVEMENT THE UNIVERSITY'S GRADUATE PROGRAMS CONTINUED TO THRIVE ONLINE, WHICH ALLOWS FOR ENROLLMENTS FROM CAREER PROFESSIONALS FROM ACROSS NEW JERSEY AND BEYOND. THE UNIVERSITY'S CENTER FOR PROFESSIONAL STUDIES (CPS) CONTINUED TO PROVIDE EXECUTIVE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSES IN SUCH AREAS AS HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, EDUCATION AND NON-PROFIT MANAGEMENT. PROGRAMMING TO SUPPORT LATINX STUDENTS CONTINUES WITH AVANZANDO, AN OUTGROWTH OF THE NATIONALLY ESTABLISHED UNIDOS-US ORGANIZATION. AVANZANDO FACILITATED WORKSHOPS, EXPERIENCES AND RESOURCES TO GCU STUDENTS WHO IDENTIFY AS LATINO. GRANTS & GIVING THE UNIVERSITY CONTINUES TO GROW FUNDRAISING AND NOTABLE GIFT IN 2022-23 INCLUDED SUPPORTING NURSING & HEALTH PROFESSIONS, GLOBAL EDUCATION AND GENERAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS HELPING TO MAINTAIN THE UNIVERSITY'S AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESS TO ECONOMIC MOBILITY. DURING THIS TIME, GCU RECEIVED OVER $1M IN COMPETITIVE GOVERNMENT GRANTS, WHICH CONTINUES A TREND OF THE UNIVERSITY CONSISTENTLY BEING AWARDED OVER A MILLION DOLLARS PER ANNUM. COMMITMENT TO CORE VALUES THROUGH SERVICE SERVICE, A GCU CORE VALUE, IS EMBEDDED IN EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THE CURRICULUM AND STUDENT LIFE. THE 2022-23 YEAR BROUGHT REPEAT HONORS FROM THE NCAA'S 'HELPER HELPER' COMPETITION; EACH YEAR GCU ATHLETES PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL PROGRAM BY VOLUNTEERING IN THE COMMUNITY. HUNDREDS OF OTHER STUDENTS GAVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM WITH CAMPUS MINISTRY, THE SOCIAL WORK CLUB, THE EDUCATION CLUB, AND VARIOUS ACADEMIC CLASSES. THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2023 CONTINUED THE SERVICE TRADITION OF ASSEMBLING MEAL KITS FOR NEEDY, INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES. ADDITIONALLY, STUDENTS ADDRESSED LOCAL FOOD INSECURITY ISSUES BY GROWING SERVICES OFFERED BY THE GCU CAMPUS FOOD PANTRY, WHICH CONTINUES TO RECEIVE MONETARY AND FOOD DONATIONS. STUDENT NEED AT GCU IN 2022-23, ABOUT 99 PERCENT OF FULL-TIME FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS RECEIVED FINANCIAL AID, WITH OVER $20M BEING AWARDED VIA UNIVERSITY AID AND DONOR-FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS.
