OUR ANNUAL HALLOWEEN CONCERT FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, A COLLABORATION WITH GREATER MIAMI YOUTH SYMPHONY, RETURNED FOR ITS 15TH YEAR, SPONSORED BY THE CHILDRENS TRUST. THE COMBINED ORCHESTRAS PERFORMED SUPERNATURAL-THEMED CLASSICAL WORKS NIGHT ON BALD MOUNTAIN AND PORTIONS OF THE FIREBIRD AND SYMPHONIE FANTASTIQUE, PLUS SOUNDTRACKS FROM APOLLO 13, GHOSTBUSTERS, FROZEN AND THE STAR WARS SERIES. COORDINATED IMAGES PLAYED ON A HUGE SCREEN BEHIND THE MULTI-GENERATIONAL ORCHESTRA. CONDUCTORS, MUSICIANS, AND MUCH OF THE AUDIENCE WORE COSTUMES. ATTENDANCE WAS 1392. DEC 17, 2023- HOLIDAY MUSIC 11 AM AT THE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CONGRETATION, FREE. A SOLO VIOLINIST ACCOMPANIED THE CONGREGATIONS CHOIR FOR A SPECIAL CHORAL PRESENTATION, ABOUT 160 PERSONS ATTENDED. DEC 20, 2023 - HOLIDAY MUSIC, 10:30 AM IN MIAMI CANCER CENTERS LOBBY, FREE. THE ORCHESTRAS IN-HOUSE STRING QUARTET PERFORMED AN HOUR OF WINTER HOLIDAY MUSIC TO CHEER THE STAFF AND PATIENTS. APPROXIMATELY 120 PERSONS CAME BY TO LISTEN. DEC 20, 2023 - NIGHTS OF LIGHTS, 7:00 PM IN PINECREST GARDENS, FREE. THE ORCHESTRAS IN-HOUSE ELECTRIC STRINGS ENSEMBLE PERFORMED AN HOUR OF JAZZY AND LIVELY HOLIDAY CLASSICS FOR THE ATTENDEES WHO CAME TO SEE THE PARKS SPECTACULAR LIGHT DISPLAY. AN ESTIMATED 110 PERSONS CAME BY TO LISTEN, MOSTLY FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN. FEB. 11, 2024 - A VALENTINE WITH STRINGS - 3 PM AT SANCTUARY OF THE ARTS, 410 ANDALUSIA AVENUE IN CORAL GABLES, 10 ADULTS AND 5 FOR SENIORS AND CHILDREN. THE ORCHESTRAS IN-HOUSE STRING QUARTET WITH PIANIST MIA VASSILEV PRESENTED A SELECTION OF CLASSICAL AND POPULAR PIECES WITH A VALENTINES DAY THEME. IT WAS OUR FIRST APPEARANCE IN THIS VENUE. AUDIENCE WAS 175 INCLUDING THE SOAS RESIDENT DANCE TROUPES WHO ATTENDED FREE. FEB 18, 2024 - A VISIT TO ITALY - 7:30 PM AT CORAL GABLES CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, FREE. SMALL STRING ORCHESTRAS, QUARTETS AND QUINTETS FORMED FROM ORCHESTRA MEMBERS PRESENTED A SALUTE TO ITALIAN MUSICAL CONTRIBUTIONS, WITH INSTRUMENTAL PIECES BY BOCCHERINI, VIVALDI, ROSSINI, VERDI, RESPIGHI, AND OTHERS FOR WINDS, BRASS AND STRINGS. HIGHLIGHTS WERE VIVALDIS LA TEMPESTI DE MARE WITH SOLO FLUTE, AND HIS LIVELY CONCERTO FOR FOUR VIOLINS. THE CHURCH WAS FILLED TO ITS 325-PERSON CAPACITY DESPITE PERSISTENT RAINY WEATHER, AND THE AUDIENCE WAS EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE OF THIS UNUSUAL CURATED PROGRAM, ATTENDED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ITALIAN CONSULATE. APRIL 7, 2024 - OUT OF THIS WORLD, 4 PM AT DENNIS C. MOSS CENTER, FREE. THIS FAMILY CONCERT, PRODUCED JOINTLY WITH THE PHILIP AND PATRICIA FROST MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND THE MOSS CENTER, DAZZLED CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH SPECTACULAR ASTRONOMICAL IMAGES ACCOMPANYING SPACE-THEMED CLASSICAL AND MOVIE MUSIC INCLUDING THE PLANETS, STAR TREK, APOLLO 13, STAR WARS, CLAIR DE LUNE, AND BLUE MOON. THE DIRECTOR OF THE MUSEUMS PLANETARIUM NARRATED THE SHOW, EXPLAINED THE SOLAR ECLIPSE EXPECTED THE NEXT DAY, AND DISTRIBUTED ECLIPSE GLASSES TO EVERYONE. THERE WERE SCIENCE-ORIENTED ACTIVITIES IN THE COURTYARD. A DELIGHTED AUDIENCE OF 670 ATTENDED. APRIL 9, 2024 - CITIZENS INTERESTED IN ARTS MEETING, 12 PM AT THE VI IN AVENTURE. A SOLO FLAUTIST ENTERTAINED MEMBERS AND GUESTS AT THIS CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS FUNDRAISING LUNCHEON, AUDIENCE 75. JUNE 2, 2024 - SEASON FINALE MADE IN AMERICA, 7:30 PM AT FIUS WERTHEIM AUDITORIUM, FREE. THE FULL ORCHESTRA PERFORMED SELECTIONS FROM BY AMERICAN COMPOSERS BERNSTEIN (WEST SIDE STORY), COPLAND (RODEO, FANFARE FOR THE COMMON MAN, AND LINCOLN PORTRAIT) WITH PIANIST MIA VASSILEV PERFORMING GERSHWINS RHAPSODY IN BLUE ON THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS PREMIERE. THE THEATRE WAS OMPLETELY FILLED TO ITS 588-SEAT CAPACITY WITH AN ENTHUSIASTIC, APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCE THAT GAVE A 5 MINUTE STANDING OVATION TO THE HARDWORKING ORCHESTRA MEMBERS. |
