The American Federation of Teachers contacted us this summer expressing that we were filing our return incorrectly. Instead of our tax year starting July 1 and ending June 30, the AFT said we should be starting September 1 and ending August 31. The AFT represented expressed to me that they would contact the IRS to fix the problem. I filed according to their directive. Unfortunately, I hadn't looked at our organization's email account until today; therefore, I didn't know that our filing was rejected. I hope that I edited the form correctly. I will follow up with a phone call to the IRS to make sure that we have completed our filing or if we need to file an amended form to use the tax year dates as we have up until this tax year.
