| Form 990, Part I, Line 1, Description of Organization Mission: | The Corporation is organized for the exclusive purpose of holding title to property, collecting income therefrom, and turning over the entire amount thereof, less expenses and less reasonable amounts invested for the purpose of growth and income with which to meet those expenses, to organizations which are exempt from Federal income taxation under provisions of Section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code as the same may be amended or replaced, or corresponding provisions of any subsequent Federal tax law. The specific objects and purposes of the Corporation are as follows: (a) To build or acquire and maintain real estate primarily designed for occupancy by the Federal Bar Association and The Foundation of the Federal Bar Association, to house their offices, meeting and library facilities. (b) To collect income from any and all property held by the Corporation and turn over the entire amount thereof periodically, less expenses and less reasonable amounts invested for the purpose of growth and income with which to meet those expenses, exclusively to the Federal Bar Association, a non-profit corporation of the District of Columbia, or The Foundation of the Federal Bar Association, a non-profit corporation created by an Act of Congress, or both, as determined by the Board of Directors hereof, so long as such organizations continue to be exempt from Federal income taxation under the Code, and in the event they do not, then to an organization which is so exempt, for the following purposes, or any of them: (1) To advance the science of jurisprudence; (2) To uphold high professional standards and respect for the Federal judiciary and for attorneys representing the Government of the United States; (3) To enhance the administration of justice, including the study of procedures to advance the progress of law and its efficient administration in the several Federal departments and establishments and those of the District of Columbia; (4) To cultivate knowledge of the law and the science of jurisprudence and research therein, and to support seminars, lectures, and studies devoted to the law, and the publication of addresses, essays, treatises, reports and other literary works by students, practitioners, and teachers of law; (5) To promote better understanding of the law through the encouragement of the study of law and facilities for scholarship opportunities; (6) To encourage cordial relations among all members of the legal profession and to enhance its prestige and dignity in cooperation with other bar associations, domestic and foreign; and (7) To provide for the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of rare books and documents, sculptures, paintings and other objects of art and historical interest relating to the law, the courts and the legal profession. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Section A, line 4 | The Board met on July 26, 2023 and determined that it is advisable and in the best interests of the Corporation that the Corporation be dissolved pursuant to the Plan of Complete Liquidation and Dissolution. The dissolution shall be effective as of the time the Articles of Dissolution is filed or such later date as stated therein, which in no event shall be later than September 30, 2023 (the "Effective Date"). The Certificate of Dissolution was filed with the District of Columbia on September 27, 2023 with the Effective Date of September 30, 2023. |
