| Form 990, Part I, Line 12 | General Information - The Museum entity was incorporated approximately 9 years ago but did not open for business until March 2019. The principals who started the Museum were unable to find a suitable existing facility to house the Museum showroom (space for 100-120 vehicles and other Mustang memorabilia) after property searches between 2015 and 2017. Therefore, the decision was made to build a Museum facility in Odenville, Alabama. A building was designed, permits obtained, building contractor proposals evaluated and, in early 2018, a contractor was selected and building construction began in July, 2018. Construction was completed in February 2019 and the Museum opened to the public in March 2019. From an operating standpoint with support coming from the public (revenue from showroom admissions, merchandise sales, Museum memberships, contributions), the Museum has been in operation 4+ years at 12/31/23. 2019 was a partial year and a startup year so public support would be lower than a normal full year. Then 2020 and 2021 were dramatically negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Museum was required by the State of Alabama to close during the normal peak tourist travel season in 2020. Also the mandatory restricted travel and other pandemic measures caused public support to be well below expected levels. 2021 still had the effect of pandemic measures, again causing attendance and public support to be below expectations. In summary, early years of construction, startup, 2 years of the effect of pandemic measures, significantly reduced expected attendance and revenue. 2022 and 2023 were recovery years with positive growth in attendance and revenue but were still below business plan. The Museum has a very limited marketing/advertising budget but is very proactive with the following activities: (1) Social Media - Active website, Active on Facebook, Active on Google Business, Active eBay store with Museum merchandise for sale, (2) Consulted with Marketing consultant to develop Museum Marketing Plan, (3) Attend Mustang shows in various states, (4) Requested an Alabama specialty tag to support the Museum, (5) Attended special show at Talladega Speedway with Bobby Allison replica rare car, (6) Attended Mississippi Highway Patrol reunion with Mississippi Highway Patrol SSP Mustang, (7) Attend Alabama Welcome Center "Tourism Day" events at I-20 and I-59 state welcome centers, (8) Made Museum presentation to local Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, (9) Purchased billboard advertising in I-20 prior to 2022 Talladega NASCAR races, (10) Active Member of Odenville Chamber of Commerce, (11) Purchased ad in local publication covering 3 central Alabama counties, (12) Sponsored car shows in local communities, (13) Provide "Goody Bag" items to several Mustang shows, (14) Had Museum display at World of Wheels in Birmingham, (15) Have "National Mustang Day" cruise-in at Museum, (16) Used rack card distribution company for distribution of Museum rack cards to hotels, motels, etc. (17) Have rack cards on display at all Alabama Welcome Centers, (18) Have rack cards on display at Birmingham airport, (19) Purchased ad in Birmingham City Travel Guide, (20) Advertised in Mustang Club of America monthly magazine, (21) Had visit from editor of Mustang Times for article on Museum in early 2024, (22) Sent letter to 160 regional Mustang clubs to introduce Museum to its members, (23) Sent letter to General Managers of all Ford dealerships in Alabama to introduce Museum, (24) Worker with publisher of "Unbridled Mustang" to have information on Museum in book, (25) Had German TV crew visit Museum to produce documentary on Mustang and Museum to air in Germany, (26) Have local advertising where affordable (restaurants, softball and baseball fields, high school sports programs, RV travel parks, etc.), (27) Work with Alabama Tourism Department to be selection for Alabama "One Pass" discount attendance at attractions. Based on first 4 months of 2024, revenue is continuing to increase when compared to prior years, therefore, Museum management is optimistic public support will also increase significantly over the next 2-3 years. |

No director has reported any conflict of interest in 2023 or in prior years. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 - The Museum does not compensate any officer or director. Currently, the Museum does not have any full-time employees. From 2019 to mid-2022, the Museum did have one salary and one part-time employee but, with the decline in attendance during the Covid pandemic, the Museum reduced hours open to the public and eliminated those positions in 2022. If the Museum were to compensate officers or directors in the future, the compensation would include a proper review and approval process. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 - Availability of From 990 to Public. Interested parties in the public know non-profit information is available to the public and therefore would request a copy of Form 990 by making request to the Museum (phone, email, postal service). These policies are available to the public upon request to the Museum (phone, email, postal service). |
